Celebrate 60 years of the Basingstoke Canal Society (BCS) with a special cruise on John Pinkerton II on 18th June at 7pm with a talk by Neil Barton on "How to save a Canal".

Neil led a team of BCS volunteers to create the 60th Anniversary video "How to save a Canal" which tells the story of a canal that was in ruin, but was saved by the hard work of thousands of volunteers.

The year is flying by and we are already in June. We have a very busy month on John Pinkerton II and some trips are already sold out. Coming up however we have a public trip on the 17th at 10am followed by a special evening trip on the 18th featuring a talk by one of our volunteers, Neil Barton. Neilโ€™s talk will cover why canals need saving, how the canal restoration movement took off, and how the Basingstoke Canal was brought back from the dead. This trip departs at 7.00pm returning around 10pm.
Then for the early birds on June 21st our annual Summer Solstice cruise departs at 4am! and This is a magical opportunity to see the sun rise across the canal. A continental breakfast will be served on the return leg.
If early mornings are not your thing we have a midsummer evening cruise on the 24th. Watch the sun go down, bring a picnic and your camera and enjoy the scenery on the longest day.
Lastly on the 28th we have a public cruise leaving at 10am
Our galley will be open on all trips serving hot & cold drinks, wines and beers and we have a loo on board!

We are running trips from the Fox & Hounds on Sat 23rd leaving at 11, 2.30 & 7pm and on Sunday and Monday at 11 and 2.30. Trips last around an hour and three quarters. Our galley will be serving hot and cold drinks, wines and beers and we do have a toilet on board. Tickets cost ยฃ10 adult ยฃ5 Kids or ยฃ26 family. Following a very successful naming ceremony our new electric trip boat Kitty II is now undergoing crew training in order to be ready to take over duties hopefully during May. Kitty II incorporates an improved layout, more comfort, an on board loo and wheelchair access. In the meantime Kitty 1 is providing cruises every weekend and bank holiday Mondays from Woking usually 3 times a day with the 2.45pm cruise offering a cream tea provided by our friends at Myrtle & May.

Its almost May and we have lots going on! Firstly this bank holiday Monday (4th) we have a trip from Odiham at 2.00pm, Then our always popular Cream Tea Cruise on the 13th at 3pm.
On the 22nd we make our way from Odiham to the Fox & Hounds at Fleet for the late May bank holiday weekend where we will be running cruises on the Saturday at 11, 2.30 & 7pm then on Sunday and Monday at 11 and 2.30. Each trip lasts around an hour and three quarters.
If you fancy joining us on the transit trips to/from Fleet/Odiham please book via the website for the one way trips. Its a great way to see parts of the canal we don't usually cruise.
As usual our galley will be open on all trips providing hot and cold drinks, beers, wines etc and snacks.

Our new electric trip boat was craned into the Wey at Send then transited to the Byfleet Boat Club for an overnight rest and a recharge.
On Thursday 2nd our crew navigated the 6 Woodham locks up through Woking Town centre to the Bridge Barn. She is now safely on her home mooring and connected to the new charging point.
The next steps are to train the crews and hopefully, begin passenger service at the end of this month.

J.PII from Odiham is running trips on Friday 3rd April, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th, All at 2pm. Trips last around 2.5 hrs and there is a free Easter Egg for each child.
Kitty is running 75min trips from Woking three times a day on the 4th/5th/6th April with the 2.45pm trips on the 4th/5th including a cream tea.

New Electric "Kitty" naming ceremony event

Come and join us for a very special event to celebrate 60 years of the Basingstoke Canal Society. There will be entertainment on and off the Canal, a naming ceremony for our new electric trip boat Kitty II, an historical exhibition and support from local wildlife organisations. The event is free to attend and will be family friendly with something for everyone.

Boundary Road Recreation Ground is alongside the Canal, a few minutes walk along the towpath from the Lightbox towards Sheerwater.

The cruising season is getting off to a fantastic start over this Mothers Day weekend.
Our fantastic volunteers are now looking forward to welcoming more people on board the following Themed Trips in April which are in addition to the normal scheduled public cruises.

๐Ÿ”นVisit the Old Thatch Cottage, Winchfield by boat Sunday 12th April
This is very popular annual trip, you will join the boat at Odiham for a cruise to Stacyโ€™s Bridge; leave the boat here for a short walk to Old Thatch Cottage, whose garden is open for charity in the National Garden Scheme, raising money for Sebastianโ€™s Action Trust.
You then rejoin the boat after you have been around the garden. You will have approximately 2 hours to explore.

Enjoy a lunchtime cruise along the beautiful Basingstoke Canal, with a fish and chip lunch included.
๐Ÿ”นEvening cruise with a talk about the Bats of the Basingstoke Canal Friday 24th April
The trip includes time to use bat detecting equipment to track the bats on the evening. The bat activity will depend on the weather.
