Please note club is closed on Wednesday evening. Key holder is on holiday with family.

We will also start our side of the date organising for the exhibition. We were originally going with the 7th, but then learned it isn't the second Saturday of the month, so it will most likely be on the 14th. We don't want to clash with our friends at Camborne, as they do the 1st Saturday of the month of August..

Stay tuned, more updates will follow when we sit down next week to discuss
And once again, we thank you all, that came along.

We will be back to posting weekly soon, still tidying up from the exhibition at club and fixing things that for broke 😬

Tho here's a new warship a member got on Saturday to play on moor edge

Okehampton Model Railway Show 2026 – post show comment from the Exhibition Manager

For those who don’t know me, my name is David, and although we don’t have official titles in our club I am what most would recognise to be the Exhibition Manager.

So the dust has finally settled on what has been quite frankly a whirlwind of a weekend. For us it ran from first thing Friday morning until lunchtime Monday, thanks to the peculiarities of running an event like this in a rural location. I am thrilled to say we are all shattered, but happy, and those who do know me will know I’m not normally one to blow my own trumpet, but I think it is fair to say this weekend was an unmitigated success.

Firstly I want to pass on huge thanks to all of our wonderful exhibitors, those who supported us in our first year and those who came to visit us for the first time this year. All arrived ready to enjoy the day and have fun despite the many issues and last minute repairs/adjustments that always crop up.

Last year during our first year’s attempt at a show, we welcomed over 450 visitors, which at the time felt incredible, especially when considering we are effectively in the middle of nowhere. This year we doubled those visitor numbers, bringing hundreds of people into Okehampton with many travelling to us from surrounding counties having heard about last years show. Feedback so far has been phenomenal, and it is very satisfying to hear about how the show has managed to exceed expectations in most cases. I was on car park duty myself and took every opportunity I could to pounce on people as they came out and force feedback from them about what went well, and what suggestions they would have for improvements to the next show – we have had some great ideas come forward that will certainly be acted upon.

So looking forward to next year, we don’t start planning a show until around November time (we need a little break), and we will take the opportunity to reflect on and review this year’s event learning any lessons we can to make sure that the next show will be even better. Once we have done this, further announcements will be made about what our plans are for the next show.

This years layout of the show was Benbridge, brought to us by the East Dorset N Gauge Group who had (putting it mildly) quite a few technical challenges to overcome with their layout suffering damage pre-setup. But they pulled it off and exhibited a fantastic layout. They have already been in touch about returning next year with a different layout, so can’t wait to see that.

Finally I want to pass on my sincere thanks, and congratulations to every member of Okehampton Model Railway Club for putting themselves out there and laying on such a large event, showing positive attitudes and willingness to pitch in to everything that needed doing.

If you came to visit us at the show, we sincerely thank you, and hope you had a great time - please pass on your experiences, and if you didn’t come to the show, please come next year – you will be made very welcome.

09/08/2026

After a looooooong day yesterday for most of us, we had an early night 💤💤

Firstly we would like to say a massive thanks to everyone that came along yesterday for our 2nd exhibition. From exhibitors, traders, and the visitors. East Dorset N Gauge Group won best of show this year, which was voted for by our chairman.

So the next question is, are we doing another next year?

Please watch this space is all we will say for now, but yes we will be back for another. But, a club meeting is needed to plan year 3 😁 so date to be confirmed.

Our team was absolutely amazing yesterday and we couldn't have done it without them either. The one issue was parking, which we cannot help, but drogan and david pulled it off somehow. So with parking in mind, next year we will have an idea to solve the issue, fingers crossed 🤞🏻 it was something we wanted to do this year, but couldn't as it opened last minute, so couldn't plan it with a week's notice! But it will have 200 spaces to use, as no doubt it was empty all day yesterday 🙉

We shall be back in a few weeks with an update, so please watch this space for the 📢 announcement 📢

It's the final countdown!!!

The logistical puzzle of putting on a decent sized exhibition in a rural location started early this morning with a run to Newton Abbot to collect the tables. The next few days are going to be a whirlwind of activity and we have a great day lined up for tomorrow. Unfortunately our ride-on train couldn't make due to a medical issue with the driver (we wish them a speedy recovery) but we still have lots of family fun activities being laid on in the field by OCRA :-)

Along with our wonderful exhibitors, traders and associations we are bringing our 'club village' to the show including 3 working layouts, one of which you can play with, kids play area, static display, refreshment stand, club sales and our YouTube channel playing all day.

We can't wait to see everyone, the weather is looking great, we are in a park location and of course there's a swimming pool in the building too, so plenty to make a day of it.

Make sure to come and say hello to us, let us know how far you've travelled and we shall put a map together show where people came from :-)
