We provide specialist community transport when private and normal public transport is not viable.

We're a local community transport charity helping people in and around Okehampton get where they need to go. From shopping trips and appointments to social groups and days out, our friendly volunteer drivers help people stay independent, connected and involved in their community. We are not affiliated with the NHS and operate as an independent local charity. Our office and phone lines are open 8:3

0am - 4pm week days (closed weekends). We are a small team so it is advisable to call us before coming to the office to ensure someone is there. 01837 55 000

Do you have some free time? Have you considered volunteering? Debbie, one of our Community Car Scheme drivers, says, 'It’s such a sociable role. People are interesting, and you get to know them. Some days I wait in the car, other times I nip to the library or do my shopping. It fits around my life.'

Our volunteer drivers take local residents to their hospital and medical appointments, to social groups and to visit family in care homes. They use their own vehicles and are paid for their mileage. Our volunteers kindly donate their time, and can choose which journeys to accept, to fit around their own schedule.

We welcome volunteers who would like to make a real difference in their local community by helping people access healthcare, services and social opportunities.

🚌 Who are we? 🚘 Okehampton District Community Transport Group (ODCTG) is a local charity supporting people across West Devon who are unable to access suitable transport through conventional means.

Our services help people attend medical appointments, access essential services, go shopping, take part in social activities and remain connected to their communities. Through our Community Car Scheme, Ring & Ride service and community trips, we provide safe, reliable and affordable transport for people who may otherwise struggle to travel due to age, disability, health conditions, mobility difficulties or rural isolation.

Our volunteer drivers and staff contribute thousands of hours each year, helping local people maintain their independence, reduce loneliness and continue living active lives within their communities.

As a community-led charity, we work closely with local authorities, healthcare providers, community groups and volunteers to ensure transport is not a barrier to health, wellbeing or social connection.

We're delighted to share that two of our volunteer drivers, Derek and Graham, have been nominated for and accepted by the Room to Reward scheme.

Room to Reward is a charity that recognises outstanding volunteers by providing complimentary short breaks donated by hotels and holiday providers across the UK. It gives charities the opportunity to thank volunteers who go above and beyond for their communities.

Derek and Graham have dedicated thousands of hours to helping local people access essential medical appointments, offering not just transport, but reassurance, kindness and a friendly face along the way. One passenger said of Graham, 'Graham put me at ease and made the journey enjoyable despite me being anxious about my appointment.' Our clients will often ask for Derek by name, reflecting the trust and confidence he has built through his dedication and support.

'Volunteering is a selfless act of committing time to assist those in our communities. ODCTG is proud of all it's volunteers and the kindnesses they give on a daily basis. Although a reward is not expected, the Room for Reward scheme is a chance for us to show our volunteers how grateful we are that they are there for our clients when needed. Derek and Graham represent the best of volunteering and we hope that they enjoy their opportunity to have a break with Room to Reward.'- Paula Anscomb, Manager of ODCTG.

🚌 A huge thank you to our Bus Buddy volunteer Linda. Thank you for your time, compassion and commitment. The difference you make is truly valued.

For some people, joining a trip or travelling somewhere unfamiliar can feel daunting. So we started looking for companions to provide a friendly face, reassurance and a helping hand, making it easier for people to get out, build confidence and enjoy social activities.

🚗 It is Volunteer Week! 🚗 A huge thank you to our Community Car Scheme drivers. We simply couldn't provide this vital service without you.

Every week, our volunteer drivers give their time to help people across West Devon get to medical appointments, attend social activities, go shopping and stay connected to their communities.

Whether it's an early morning hospital appointment or a regular trip to see friends, your kindness, patience and dedication make a real difference to the people we support.

Our volunteers also help in other ways, including helping at events such as our coffee mornings.

We're at The Rotary Club of Okehampton 's May Fair in Simmons Park, Okehampton. The fair is on until 5pm, free entry. Plenty of food, drink, entertainment and stalls. Come say hello! 🌞
