Client: Dornan Engineering Ltd. Date: July 2011 ‐ April 2012

Alternative Access were contracted to install six truss structures spanning between structural stair towers in a natural gas fired power station. The purpose of the truss system was to support heavy duty cables at a height of 10m, a truss cross section was used to span the 25m gaps and support the weight of the cables. The installation took place over four site visits to Pembroke Power Station, Wales, over a period of 9 months, total time on site was nine days.

Working with Dornan Engineering and along side Davies Crane, the truss fixings were completed on site to ensure the fit was precise to the fine tolerances within the design.

Alternative Access Logistics were commissioned to maintain the prestigious Pixel Cloud Chandelier installation to the Allen and Overy Building, Bishops Sq, London. The Pixel Cloud is an eight storey tall 3D matrix of light globes suspended in the North Atrium. The installation won the Workplace Environment category, Design Week Awards, 2009.

The maintenance involved gaining access to drop strands of glass globes, hung from the centre of the atrium and aiding the Jason Bruges engineers to conduct the electrical work to the 8 storey high chandelier. Once the maintenance work and light test sequences were complete, the strands were lifted 80ft back into position paying special attention not to damage the delicate lighting.

Alternative Access Logistics were commissioned to change the fixings to the atrium of an indoor domed swimming pool of Centre Parcs Thetford. In total there were over 5000 bolts needed replacing in 1700 locations as well as 100 galvanised fixings and a support bracket. The work was undertaken at night as the pool was fully functional in the day.

As a consequence of the pool being operational in the day it was essential that no debris was dropped for the duration of the work, this was ensured by the use of a special debris net covering 1.5m2 area underneath each operatives working position. This ensured the cleanliness of the pool and garden below. For the duration of the work the conditions were hot and humid making it difficult for the operatives to perform their labour intensive work gaining and egress using only roped access techniques. This was taken into account and it was recommended that the operatives wore lighter clothing and ensured they were properly hydrated.

BAM Construction Ltd. appointed Alternative Access to provide the permanent access system and fall protection equipment to the New Co‐op Head Office, Manchester. Within our Scope of Works, aesthetically pleasing access ladders were provided. The Architects (3D Reid) specification insisted that no ladder rungs were visible when not in use. In total nineteen ladders were in‐ stalled around the parapet of the building.

AAL jointly designed the fold away rung ladders with our key supplier, Fallprotec SA, Luxembourg. The ladders, provide safe access to the parapet and conform to the Architects aesthetics specification.

The Fallprotec ladder utilises the VIA4 Fall Arrest Trolley to ensure the safety of the operative whilst maintaining ease of use.
