** Volunteer Opportunity** Senior Engineer / Railway Engineering Lead

The Standard Steam Locomotive Company, a registered charity, is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Engineer / Railway Engineer to help lead our exciting new-build project for the 'lost' BR Standard Class 6 locomotive, 72010 Hengist.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in one of the most significant heritage railway engineering projects in the UK and help create a lasting legacy within the preservation movement.

This is an engineering led project and you will be working alongside a dedicated team of engineers, suppliers, and volunteers at the Hengist Works based within Diamond Group, Sheffield; the successful candidate will help drive the project forward through its next stages of construction. We hope this individual will eventually take on a wider leadership role within the organisation, including becoming a Director and joining the Council of Management.

HENGIST update, 21/04/26. During our recent open day, we were gifted these items. Spring for the Balance Gear and a Reversing Screw and Nut. We are indebted to Standard Locomotive 76077 for donating these very useful items, many thanks.

A massive thank you to everyone, exhibitors, volunteers and members of the public, who attended our open day last Saturday. the event was once again a huge success. Big thanks to the Diamond Engineering team for allowing this to happen. We thank you all. See you all next year.

Information for those attending our open day tomorrow, 11th April.
Unfortunately our outside caterer has been taken ill this morning. We have tried to engage a replacement catering company, but without success.
We will still have light refreshments available throughout the day, but not the hot food service we hoped to have available.
We can only apologise for the disappointment this will cause you.
