Lifeguard service has one more week
They are on duty all this week with the last day on Sunday the 6th of September.

Sidmouthโ€™s lifeguard service is a fully independent service run and funded solely by Sidmouth independent lifeboat.

If you are on the sea front between now and Sunday and have any questions or just want to say hi then please go and do so.

Thank you ๐Ÿ™

Respect the lifeguard!

If while you are in Sidmouth you are going to actively and intentionally ignore multiple obvious warning signs and physically clamber around and over a locked gate to access an extremely dangerous section of coastline and beach despite the very obvious house sized rock fall on the beach and put yourself in danger then please have the decency to be respectful when a lifeguard offers you safety advice. The lifeguard is just simply doing their job with care and compassion.
Lots of people just witnessed a group of people being very rude and disrespectful to one of Sidmouthโ€™s lifeguards who was just trying to help.

Just remember of you make a choice to put yourself in danger who is called to save you when you get into trouble?

The signs, locked gates and advice is all there because the risk is real!

Sunshine and Surf!
This new week commencing the 24th of August starts with warm sunny weather and potentially strong wind and sea conditions from the east.
It will create some waves for surfing and bodyboarding but also along this coast in particular Sidmouth easterly sea conditions can create hazardous areas around our man made sea defences, rock groynes and islands!
We support the lifeguard service in their advice toโ€ฆ.
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - swim between the red and yellow flags!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - avoid swimming near, around the rock groynes!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - avoid swimming near, around or between the rock offshore rock islands!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - listen to the Lifeguards, respect their advice and warning / information signage.
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - know your lifeguards flags ( see photo )
The sea can be deceptively strong in conditions from the east.
Take care!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - If in doubt donโ€™t go out!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - Swim between the red and yellow flags!
๐Ÿ›Ÿ - Talk to the lifeguards!

Top tip Tuesday!!

Know your flags before you get in! ๐Ÿšฉ

Heading to the beach this weekend? Take a moment to check the flags and know what they mean before entering the water.

๐Ÿ”ด๐ŸŸก Red & yellow: Lifeguard-patrolled area โ€” the safest place to swim.
๐Ÿ Black and White:Craft zone โ€” no swimming.
๐Ÿ”ด Red:Danger โ€” do not enter the water.
๐ŸŸ  Orange windsock:Strong offshore winds โ€” do not use inflatables.

For a safer day at the coast:

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Always swim at a lifeguarded beach and stay within the red and yellow flags.
๐ŸŒŠ Check the tide times before heading out โ€” the sea can change quickly.
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Know how to Float to Live. If you get into trouble in the water, stay calm, lie back and float until you feel able to call for help or swim to safety.
๐Ÿšฉ Check the flags when you arrive and follow the advice of lifeguards.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Keep an eye on the weather and conditions and make sure someone knows where youโ€™re going.

A few simple checks before you get in can make all the difference. Have fun, stay safe and Respect the Water.๐Ÿ’™

Cliff falls and Easterly conditions!

Yesterday saw multiple cliff falls on east beach at Sidmouth. This is a natural phenomenon with no pattern or warning.
Signage is there for a reason!
EDDC has very obvious signage in place near the access point to East Beach and those walking to Sidmouth from Salcombe mouth beach there is a sign there warning you of the dangers of walking along that beach and its states โ€œNo Accessโ€ to Sidmouth.
Sidmouth lifeguards work tirelessly to educate and prevent people walking that way and highlight the dangers with extra signage and now have an outpost of lifeguards based at the eastern end of the esplanade to make sure there reach is greater. Yesterday saw lots of very near misses with people walking under cliffs as they crumbled.
Waking along that beach is dangerous and you are taking a huge risk and one that you are not bigger than.
Please read the signs and respect the message they give you along with the lifeguards advice.
The lifeguards are just doing their job and are not telling you off but actually caring about the safety of the public.

Also today we have hot weather and easterly winds so please again follow their advice and take note of the warnings.
Avoid swimming near, around or between the rock islands and rock groynes.

Enjoy the beach - itโ€™s the best play ground.

Thank you - in support of lifeguards around our coastline who do an amazing job.

Lifeguards have worked tirelessly all day to keep people off it, educated and informed!
Over 35 cliff falls today.
Endless people still walking along the beach.
