As the holiday season picks up, many of us start shopping for gifts for the people we care about. Yet not every gift hits the mark. ๐
Studies show that between 15% and 30% of Christmas gifts are returned, exchanged, donated or passed on to someone else. In other words, we end up wasting time and money on roughly one in five gifts.
Last year, almost 23% of Brits said they exchanged unwanted gifts for something else, 12% returned unwanted gifts for a full refund, 21% donated them to charity shops, and 19% regifted them to someone new.
In the United Kingdom alone, unwanted Christmas gifts amount to around 67 million items, with an estimated value of ยฃ1.5 billion. This highlights the significant logistical and financial challenges retailers face once the festive period has passed.
Our message this holiday season is simple: consider whether all the time and money spent searching, buying and wrapping will truly make a difference. Perhaps there are more sustainable and meaningful ways to surprise your loved ones?
