Beautiful Sri Lanka...Somak Luxury Travel

🐘 This World Conservation Day, we're spotlighting a resort doing things properly.

Uga Ulagalla in Sri Lanka has just finished the second phase of its community elephant fence near Anuradhapura, working alongside the local community and the Centre for Conservation and Research.
The five kilometre electric fence protects 65 farming families and around 132 acres of farmland, while still leaving elephants free to move naturally through their habitat.
Rather than shutting elephants out, the fence works as a gentle deterrent around villages and crops, easing human-elephant conflict without causing harm, so both communities and wildlife can share the land more safely.
It's an extension of the resort's Elephant Research Centre, set up in 2020 by Head Naturalist Katharina Raaben with Sri Lankan conservationists Dr Prithiviraj Fernando and Dr Jennifer Pastorini, and follows an earlier fence that's already changed daily life for 70 nearby families since 2023.
Guests at Uga Ulagalla can visit the centre and hear directly from the team tracking elephant movements in the region, then spend their days exploring the Cultural Triangle, Sigiriya Rock Fortress, and Minneriya and Wilpattu National Parks, with horse riding, kayaking and organic farming experiences right on the estate.

Already proving popular with 🍻 Oktoberfest travellers this autumn, the Munich route will now continue into the winter period, giving passengers the chance to swap the UK for twinkling lights, mulled wine and Christmas shopping 🛍️

📍 Featuring over 20 distinct festive locations, including the Christkindlmarkt in Marienplatz, the city’s largest and most famous market, the 30-foot Christmas pyramid which acts as the centrepiece at the Munich Residenz, and the Pink Christmas, Munich’s inclusive LGBTQ+ market in Stephanplatz.

For those looking for entertainment beyond the Christmas markets there is a host of museums including – the BMW Museum, FC Bayern Museum, as well as aviation and science museums ⛷️ In addition, there is easy access to some of Europe’s best ski resorts.

🗓️ The seasonal service will now operate from 23 November 2026 until 1 January 2027, with three weekly 🛫🧡 easyJet flights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Sammi was treated to two tours over last weekend to discover the hidden gems of the North of Tenerife. The landscape is beautifully green with lush coast-lines, and the culture is a mixture of Spanish with Latin American influences.
There really is so much to see and do, from hiking volcanoes, star-gazing, surfing or just wandering the pretty historic towns and sampling the local food and drink (which is very cheap compared to the South!) There is something for everyone here...⛰️🌳⭐️
