While everyone at home is digging out the winter coats, the Algarve is still warm, still bright, and crucially a fraction of the price it was in August.

Ukino Terrace in Armação de Pêra is a lovely, down-to-earth base for exactly that kind of trip. It's a self-catering apartment complex, close to the beach, with a pool to laze by and Faro just a short flight from Gatwick.

Let me be straight with you about what it is and isn't, because you'll always get that from me. This is a comfortable, spacious three-star apartment, not a five-star resort and that's precisely the point.

Self-catering gives you the freedom to do your own thing: coffee on the balcony, a lazy morning, wander out for lunch, cook in when you fancy. It suits couples, groups of friends, and families who like a bit of independence rather than being tied to set mealtimes. One honest note — there are no lifts and a fair few steps, so if mobility's a factor for anyone travelling, have a word with me first.

There's something you only really understand once the kids are grown, or once you decide the two of you have earned it: a holiday with no compromise in it. No early starts you didn't choose. No noise you didn't invite. Just fourteen unbroken days that belong to the two of you.

That's exactly what Cleopatra Luxury Resort in Nabq Bay is built for. It's adults-only, brand new for Summer 2027, and it's the sort of all-inclusive that lets you properly let go, multiple pools, a wave pool when you fancy a bit of fun, and swim-up rooms if you want to step straight from your terrace into the water. Fourteen nights is a real stay, not a snatched long weekend, and that length is when the shoulders finally drop.

One honest note, because you'll always get that from me: the beach is shared with the sister hotel next door, which isn't adults-only, so you may see children down by the water even though the resort itself is grown-ups only. For most couples that's a non-issue, but I'd always rather you knew before you booked than after.

It's a certified sustainable hotel too, so you can switch off completely and feel good about it.
