Our Planning Manager, Charlie Bridgeman, is taking on the Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge on 18th July, covering 50km of the South Wales coastline in a single day in support of a charity that has quietly held his family together through some of the hardest years of their lives.

When Charlie's son Callum was just two, he had his first major seizure. A genetic test later revealed KCNa2, a rare mutation that causes a form of early-onset epilepsy that doesn't respond to medication, and after every other option had been exhausted, Great Ormond Street prescribed the ketogenic diet, a strict, meticulously measured way of eating that takes hours of preparation every single day.

Through all of it, The Daisy Garland has held their hand. The charity funds NHS dieticians, supplies night-time breathing monitors to families who need them most, runs specialist cooking lessons, and offers the kind of practical, no-fuss support that makes an impossible situation feel a little more manageable. It was set up by Daisy's mum after Daisy died from SUDEP at the age of six, and that is the heart of why Charlie is doing this.

If you can spare anything at all to back him, his donation page is in the comments.

Go on, Charlie. We're right behind you.

A big congratulations to Joel George, Assistant Project Manager at Amaro, who's been awarded his Assistant Engineering Manager's Licence by the IRSE! 🏆

This is a significant step up for Joel, and is a recognition of his ability to support the engineering management of signalling and telecoms projects, from planning and delivery through to handover and commissioning, all while ensuring work stays compliant, safe, and aligned with our clients' requirements.

Earning this licence is proof of Joe's hard work, growing expertise, and his commitment to the team and the clients we serve.

Well done, Joel! Thoroughly deserved. 👏

Last weekend marked the culmination of more than 4 months of work in South Wales, upgrading end of life signalling assets throughout the Core Valley Lines.

Working for Amey Infrastructure Wales on behalf of Transport for Wales, since early January, we’ve swapped out 55 outdated signal modules for state-of-the-art LED replacements, delivering…

🔷 On time

🔷 Within budget

🔷 With zero accidents or incidents

… with just 3 weeks of handback left to close the project out.

Headed up by Amaro PM and South Wales native, Dan James, this project has involved significant planning, coordination, and collaboration from concept through to completion. From procurement to site works, testing, and handover, the whole team here at Amaro has shown true grit, skill, and professionalism throughout.

We’ve been lucky on this project to experience so much of what this incredible region has to offer, from the urban hustle of Cardiff to the stunning countryside around Rhymney and the Brecon Fringe…

Here’s to many more projects, improving passenger experiences in South Wales!

Whilst most people were enjoying the bank holiday sun, the last few days saw a mammoth effort from one of our most experienced teams to date.

Working over the year’s hottest weekend to date, 16 Amaro operatives – including 2 Senior PMs, a Senior Construction Manager, our Signalling Compliance Manager AND 4 of our fantastic apprentices – got firmly stuck in in central London, supporting the delivery of Network Rail’s Thameslink Core Dual Detection Project.

From material drop offs on Friday night to days and nights on Saturday and Sunday, over 5 intense shifts they delivered some seriously impressive results…

🔷 Installing 55 Frauscher axle counters

🔷 Installing all necessary fly leads

🔷 Completing the associated verification checks

Far from standard, the approach being taken here is extremely rare, with axle counters being installed alongside the existing track circuits.

It this works as intended, this innovative methodology could be a game changer for the industry, with the same design potentially being rolled out right across the network where flooding and other factors have long caused track circuit headaches.

This is exactly the kind of work that goes on behind the scenes and yet goes unnoticed, playing a vital role in keeping the UK’s rail passengers moving 💪

It was all hands on deck in Kent yesterday as 8 of Amaro's finest (plus a further 12 from Vital) were tasked with replacing 2 faulty 650v power cables.

And, with 6 of the client's own operatives joining us (no pressure!) the whole team delivered flawlessly.

🔹 Pulling out 900m of cable (no easy task)
🔹 Clearing out the route ready for the new cable
🔹 Nipping and tucking the cable
🔹 Bringing the new cables into service

Now in our FIFTH year on Network Rail's SPS Kent Maintenance framework, since early 2022 we've supported NR across the county, inspecting the area's signal power supplies, performing routine, periodic, and NICEIC testing, repairing cabling, transformers and more, all to bring the whole system within current standards...

Framework win! 📣

Following two extremely successful three-year contracts plus a further year's extension, Amaro has officially been awarded yet another year of work on two of our longest-running frameworks...

- The Kent Signalling Power Supplies (SPS) Framework

- The Wessex Signalling Power Supplies (SPS) Framework

The result of 4 years of high quality, consistent delivery, since early '22 we've been supporting Network Rail, inspecting, maintaining, and improving the signalling power supplies within both areas, performing periodic testing, repairing cabling, transformers and more, all to bring the whole system within current standards.

Heartfelt thanks and congratulations go out this morning to all those who've made this possible, and to Network Rail themselves for continuing to place their trust in Amaro.

Amaro's 2026 apprenticeship scheme is open for applications, and we're looking for four people to start with us in September.

This is open to anyone. Any age, any gender, any background. You don't need to have worked in rail before, you don't need an engineering qualification, and you don't need a glittering set of exam results. What we're after is curiosity, a bit of grit, and the appetite to learn from some of the sharpest engineers in the industry.

What you'll get back is £28,000 from your very first day (rising each year), industry recognised qualifications, and hands-on involvement in real projects for some of the biggest names in rail. That means no tuition fees and no student debt - just a genuine career with genuine prospects.

Whether you've just finished school or college, are a few years into a job that isn't quite working out, or are weighing up a complete change later in life, this could be the start of something special.

If someone springs to mind who'd suit this opportunity, please pass this on. A quick share could honestly change a life.

This September, two of our team are taking on a seriously impressive challenge 🏃🏃‍♂️

A 50km ultramarathon across the Ceraunian Mountains in southern Albania, running and hiking through rugged terrain in 30 degree heat to complete the Ultra 4 Veterans mountain race.

Raising money for 4 armed forces charities right here in the UK, for Lewis, this one's personal. He served with the British Army Royal Engineers, and the charity partners (Head Up, REORG, Team Forces and The Not Forgotten) all do brilliant work supporting veterans and serving personnel.

Amaro have covered the entry fee, but Lewis and Jimmy are paying for flights, kit and spending money themselves. Most importantly, however, they EACH need to raise £800 in donations before the event.

If you can spare a few pounds towards either of their fundraising pages, it would be hugely appreciated. Every donation goes straight to the four charities, and no amount is too small.

Some of you may already know our Quality & Compliance Manager Elaine Kenny, and you'll know she doesn't do anything by halves.

Next month, she's taking on the Lake District Mighty Hike, walking a whopping 26 miles in a single day to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The route starts at the historic Dalemain Mansion, drops down to Ullswater, then loops the entire lake anticlockwise before climbing back up to where it all began. A full marathon distance, on foot, across some of the most beautiful (and demanding) terrain the Lakes has to offer.

Macmillan supports people living with cancer at every stage, from diagnosis onwards. Almost everyone reading this will know someone whose life has been touched by their work, which is why every pound raised genuinely matters.

We're incredibly proud of Elaine for taking this on, and we'd love to help her smash her fundraising target. If you can spare a few quid to cheer her on, her donation page is linked in the comments.

Good luck, Elaine. We're rooting for you!
