No mistake! Tonight (Tuesday) is the night - come to the Library of Mistakes in Edinburgh from 6pm - 8pm and meet the BMAA's chief executive Owain Johns.

BMAA, LAA and non members all welcome.

It's a fantastic and quirky venue - as you can see. Tucked down a lane in Edinburgh's west end, super handy for main coach routes and railway stations. Loads of street parking nearby - not in the lane! - chargeable until 18:30.

Hail the chief! The British Microlight Aircraft Association's chief executive is coming for a quick tour of central Scotland to meet the members. Itinerary below.

He'll also be looking at wind turbines - the latest ones have indivudal blades longer than the wingspan of the double-decker Airbus A380, and the whole turbine is the height of a 60-storey block of flats!

But they are three particular areas where they pose a threat to aviation safety.

Here's his schedule:

Tuesday 26th:
Arr Edinburgh Airport c 9am, drive to Strathaven Airfield.
11:30 fly Strathaven, Kilmarnock, Hunterston, Loch Lomond to Perth (Scone) arr 13:00
Fly Scone 14:00 to Balado Airfield, arr 14:30.
Fly Balado 15:00 to East Fortune, arr 15:45
Depart East Fortune by car 16:30 for Edinburgh

Evening BMAA/LAA meeting - all welcome - at the Library of Mistakes, Edinburgh 18:00 - 20:00. Drinks after in pub!

Wednesday 28th, one or two meetings planned - but potential space in calendar before he heads home. Give me a call on 07717 141104

ps. First question for him: why don't you have better photos available!

Put a sock in it!

Well, it's one way to block Logie the robo mower. He enjoyed a good chew!

The mystery now is who came to the airfield with fancy socks, and went home barefoot?

Squared away!
Back in the hangar at dusk on Sunday after tidying up the edges of the crosswind runway and the short taxiway.
The initial robot mower installation had wiggly edges, so it's time to reprogram it and straighten them up before the grass gets any longer.
Many bits needed a helping hand - as you can see from the ride-on mower and the grass in the trailer!

It is a short email, but the result of more than six month's work with the University of the West of Scotland's Drone Systems Lab and The Drone Office.

Our amazing drone project has now achieved the UK Civil Aviation Authority Specific Assurance and Integrity Level (SAIL) Level 1 confirmation.

Now on to Assessment 2. We could be front page news by the summer!

Well, this was surprise!

A replica built at Strathaven Airfield of the Messerschmitt Me163 - the first aircraft to fly faster than 1,000 kilometers per hour (not that the fuel lasted that long, about seven minutes was the endurance!)

Advert popped up the AFORS web page. https://afors.uk/light-aircraft/for-sale/standardView-67255/ Not sure what we would do with it, but it might be nice if it returned "home"!

Does anyone have further information on this 1970s project?

Boom! A massive lightening strike just a field away at 06:40 on Sunday!

This is a screenshot of a lightening strike site - halfway between Nether Lethame Farm and the airfield.

Only airfield casualty is one of our webcams - and a quick power cut that means we have had to reset all the clocks!
