Quality has a price. Expertise has a price. A delicious outcome?Well that has a price too. And that’s how it should be.

I could have bought a supermarket peach for much less than I paid for this enormous, locally grown “OMG” specimen from Pike Place Market in Seattle.

But I chose to invest in one of life’s best fruit experiences. 😌🍑

And it was worth every penny. I’m still thinking about it 😜

There’s a common expectation in travel that if you use a travel professional, they should find you the same holiday you found online…

…and then make it cheaper 🤷🏻‍♀️

But what are we supposed to take away?

Our expertise? Our time? Our knowledge of what works, what doesn’t and what will actually give you the right outcome? Our stamp of approval? The responsibility that can last months or years?

All of that has value.

An online booking with no human service is a completely different proposition. If that’s all you need, brilliant. Book it.

But all our clients want more than a holiday that’s simply booked. They want it right.

They want recommendations, protection, support and advice with their unique requirements in mind.

And if something goes sideways, they want someone on their side who knows their trip and actually cares.

Sometimes spending a little more on something you really want is absolutely worth it. Just like this 🍑

Summer’s ending, and we’re already booking autumn escapes, winter sun and 2027 adventures.

We’ll help you work out what’s worth spending your money and what isn’t. Honest, well considered proposals with you in mind and a focus on value and peace of mind.

Looking for a peachy rather than cheapy trip? You’re in the right place ☺️

A message to anyone thinking about travelling, regardless of your age, but especially if you’re young…

Go.Seriously just go.

Don’t wait for the perfect job, the perfect amount of money, the perfect partner, your life completely figured out.

The world is far too big to only know the places that feel familiar.

Three of our son’s friends recently headed off to China on a trip we’d helped plan for them, and watching it all unfold has made me think about just how important travel can be when you’re young. The arrival of visa free travel for UK passport holders opened up an exciting opportunity.

They went somewhere completely different, somewhere outside of their comfort zones.

They experienced a very different culture and unfamiliar language.

They had to navigate, adapt, make decisions and occasionally work things out the hard way.

That’s the thing about travel.

You set off thinking you’re going to see the world.

But along the way, you discover a bit more about yourself too.

You become more independent. More confident. More resilient.

And you make memories with people that you’ll still be talking about decades from now.

So if you’re young and have the opportunity to travel…

Take it and don’t wait for life to be perfectly aligned.

Travel when you’re young is an investment in yourself.

You don’t need to travel in luxury.

You don’t need everything to go perfectly.

You just need to go.

The world is wide and it’s waiting.

Do it while you can.

And trust me… one day you’ll be very glad you did ☺️

Big thanks to Ib, Matt and Keith for everything 🙏🏼

When a trip turns into stories you’ll tell for the rest of your life.

Back in June, a group of friends set off on a trip to China we’d planned. They were supposed to have an incredible adventure together but none of us could have imagined how it would start and just how important their friendship would become.

When our son arrived in Beijing needing emergency surgery, they faced an extremely difficult situation. And they stepped up and provided the support he needed until I was able to travel out there. For that, we will be forever grateful ❤️

These pics show the story after the event - the places they visited, the sights they saw and the fun they clearly had.

But there’s something else in these photos too: friendship and resilience. Three young men discovering that they can handle a lot more than they probably thought they could.

I’m proud of all of them and thankful that our son had these mates beside him when he needed them most.

This wasn’t quite the trip any of us expected.

But it became something none of us will ever forget.

Alaska on Brilliant Lady was, well, absolutely brilliant of course. We definitely chose the right cruise line, time of year and cabin for our preferences. Adult-only, unlimited speciality dining, free WiFi and balcony for fresh air views.

But if I was planning Alaska again, there’s one thing I’d do before booking the cruise.

I’d work out first what I actually want to do when I get there.

Because Alaska cruises can look very affordable at first glance…

…and then you start looking at the excursions 😳

Whale watching.
Helicopters.
Glacier visits.
Sea kayaking.
Dog sledding.
Scenic flights.
King crab feasts.
Bear spotting.

It becomes a bigger investment than anticipated. Sticker shock all round.

So here’s the thing…

The cruise is only part of the Alaska experience.

Unlike other ports, such as those in the Med, mooching around for free doesn’t cut it. You fly for 10 hours and make it to the wilderness so you want to see what it’s all about. It’s not like most of us Brits can pop back every year.

So I’d work backwards.

What are your absolute must-dos?

Want to see whales? Budget for it.

Dreaming of landing on a glacier? Budget for it.

Work out how much you want to or can invest in your bucket list trip.

Not sure? Do your research or seek professional advice.

Even on holiday, I assess the details of our trip through the eyes of a travel advisor as well as a tourist. Learning as we go, researching on the move. All because we want to have the best experience and for our clients to have the same.

If Alaska’s on your list, we’d love to help you get there. No surprises, just joy and anticipation. Always honest and open advice.

✈️ Our British Airways Club Suite experience…

As a special birthday treat, we blew our collection of Avios plus a companion voucher on BA’s Club Suite to Seattle and back. At a cost of 4 or 5 times more than economy, was it worth it?

Here’s our verdict:

Overall, we really enjoyed it. A solid 8/10.

The enclosed seat is the star of the show. Plenty of space, privacy, and of course a lie-flat bed that made the hours at 35,000 feet disappear quickly. For a 10 hour long-haul journey, being able to arrive feeling rested is a pretty big deal. And we were grateful for it.

The food was… fine. Nothing particularly memorable, but acceptable. The flight attendants make a great cuppa.

I would not upgrade based on the dining. Other airlines offer much better even at entry level. Korea Air can serve a delicious bibimbap in economy during a 90 minute hop!

There’s also a nice choice of fancy drinks though in reality, few people actually selected them. My orange juice was freshly squeezed and my Diet Coke came in a fancy cut glass tumbler.

The lounges are pleasant too, but very, very busy. There was no feeling of exclusivity - you need to fly BA first class to get a semblance of that.

I like the White Company amenity bags which are now stashed away for when I have to sit in a normal seat to cheer myself up.

My honest take is that BA Club World is a much more relaxed and enjoyable way to travel, but it doesn’t feel like the transformational luxury experience some may expect. Whether it represents good value is obviously going to be very personal depending on preferences and circumstances. For what we paid (200k points and £450pp in taxes), it was definitely a worthwhile investment. It’ll be hard to return to the back of the plane for future trips !

If you’ve been lucky enough to fly in premium cabins, which airline has impressed you? We’d love to know!

We live in a world where information is everywhere you look. Especially in relation to travel.

Google it. Compare it. Read the TripAdvisor reviews. Watch the TikToks. Ask ChatGPT.

And because so much information is free, we’ve started to assume that getting help should be free too.

But there’s a difference between information and expertise.

When you use a good travel consultant, you’re not really paying for someone to just click BOOK.

You’re getting the knowledge behind the booking.

The hours of research you don’t see.
Knowing which hotels are genuinely good, and which just look good online.
Working out the best flights and connections.
Understanding what will actually suit and protect you.
Spotting potential problems before they become problems.
And having support when the unforeseen hits the fan.

And here’s the bit people often forget…

There can be hours of unpaid work behind a holiday that never happens. Those “just want to pick your brain” enquiries all take time.

So perhaps the question isn’t:

“Can I find the information I need for free?”

Of course you can.

The better question is:

“Do I want to spend my time doing it and do I know enough to know whether I’ve got it right?”

Because free information is everywhere.

Tailored advice from professionals with real world experience?

That’s a different thing altogether.

Welcome September. What a summer it’s been!

We’ve had the pleasure of sending our lovely clients all over the world and we’ve loved seeing the photos, hearing the stories and reading your feedback along the way.

Because helping you create happy memories is why we do what we do.

For us, it’s never just about making the booking. That’s only the beginning.

It’s about being there before you go, keeping a close eye on the details, preparing for the unexpected, stepping in when things don’t quite go to plan, and making sure your holiday delivers the experience you deserve.

Because when you’re potentially making one of the biggest spends of the year, having professional support, experience and a human being in your corner makes sense.

Time is too short for mediocre. We genuinely believe this.

This summer, we’ve sent you to far-flung destinations including Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Hawaii and Canada.

Closer to home, you’ve explored Egypt, Amsterdam, the Adriatic, Denmark, Turkey and plenty more.

Some of you took your first cruise. Others returned to the ocean. You celebrated anniversaries, milestone birthdays, exam results plus simply the joy of getting away.

Behind the scenes, there’s been a lot of work: checking, preparing, monitoring, tweaking, reassuring and, when needed, fixing.

But when the photos land.

Suddenly al the details are worth it.

Because this is what it’s really about: helping you have an unforgettable time that makes you think “it was so worth it!”

Thank you for trusting us with your travels and for letting us share in the memories. ❤️

We believe your holiday deserves more than a just a few taps on a screen and a booking confirmation. What about you?

Hello September! We’re back… for the next few weeks anyway!

After our incredible Alaska and Pacific Northwest adventure, we’re catching up, planning ahead and ready to help with your next trip. For those who’ve followed along, we hope you’ve enjoyed the ride and found some inspiration too!

While we’ve been away, we’ve been thinking about what Coulter Travel is really about.

Because we’re not your ordinary travel agency.

We’re not here to replace Google.
We’re not here to beat the internet on price.
And we’re probably not the best option if you want to send the same holiday brief to five agents and simply compare the quotes.

Where we add value is in everything that happens after your initial googling: curating to avoid choice overwhelm (cos that’s a real thing!), refining, recommending, protecting and actioning.

You tell us what you want to experience, what matters to you, what you’ve loved before, what you’d rather avoid … and what you’re comfortable investing.

Then we use our experience, knowledge, supplier contacts and first-hand travel insight to make the pieces fit.

Because finding and booking any holiday is easy. Anyone can do that.

Finding the right holiday is something else.

Whether it’s a milestone celebration, a family adventure, a complicated long-haul itinerary, a cruise or simply a trip you really want to get right, we’re here to take away the research, decision-making and uncertainty and hopefully make the whole process more relaxed and enjoyable too.

We work best when it’s a collaboration.

Not a transaction.
Not a race to the bottom.
And not a free-for-all of competing quotes.

Just two people who know travel, working with people who want to travel well.

Our new website will reflect this positioning more clearly, but the way we work isn’t changing:

Personal service. Expert advice. Confident planning. Caring support.

We’re around for the next five weeks before our next big adventure begins, so if there’s a trip you’ve been thinking about, now’s a great time to start the conversation.
