Camping des Capucines – Benouville/Ranville

How to get there.....

1. Car Ferry from Portsmouth to Ouistreham
2. 10 mins drive inland (D84 & 514) to camp site locations

We have selected this location due to its proximity to the famous Pegasus Bridge and the legacy of firsts that it would become.

The Café Gondree is the first building in France to be liberated from German occupying forces and is still family run to this day.

The first casualty of D-Day was at this location. Lt Den Brotheridge’s glider landed 50ft from a German machine gun (MG) nest. They silenced this position, but he was killed by an MG nest whilst trying to take the side of the bridge where the café is located.

He is buried in Ranville, the first village to be liberated in Operation Overlord.

Top 5 Tips for Winterizing your caravan

1. Ventilate - thus preventing mildew and mould

2. Drain water from any tanks - thus preventing ice expansion leading to cracks

3. Cover the caravan with an awning or tarpaulin - this helps protect it from the elements and any flying debris

4. Disconnect all batteries and gas supplies (unless attached to an alarm)

5. Take care to check your tyres for signs of cracking
