Tomorrow, I’ll be booking a twin-centre holiday to Crete for some returning clients, and it reminded me of one of the biggest mistakes people make when planning a villa holiday.

They fall in love with the villa first.

A beautiful pool, stunning sea views, the perfect outdoor dining area… and only then do they look at where it actually is.

The thing is, Crete is much bigger than many people realise. The same goes for lots of other destinations too. Many of the most beautiful villas are tucked away in peaceful villages or hidden along the coast, which can be absolutely perfect… or completely wrong for the holiday you’re hoping for.

That’s why I always recommend choosing the area first and the villa second. The right location will shape your whole holiday, from how much driving you do to the beaches, restaurants and places you’ll explore.
