Friends of Swanwick Train Station

Friends of Swanwick Train Station Community group caring for Swanwick train station. This group is where we will share updates and photos of the station.

We are a small group of local volunteers who have adopted our Swanwick train station to help brighten it up with flowers and planters for everyone who passes through. Our aim is simple: to make the station even more welcoming, colourful, and enjoyable place for the whole community. By caring for planters, looking after the waiting area and keeping the space looking its best, we hope to create some

thing that commuters, visitors, and neighbours can all appreciate and enjoy. Whether you want to volunteer, donate plants, or just follow along and enjoy the progress, you are very welcome here.

It was a pleasure to welcome our local MP, Paul Holmes to Swanwick Station and have the opportunity to talk about the work of Friends of Swanwick Station, our plans for the future and some of the challenges facing our station.

Alongside discussing our volunteer work and the improvements we are making around the station, we were particularly grateful for the opportunity to raise two important issues: the need for lifts to make the station more accessible and the condition of the existing footbridge, which is in need of repair. We are particularly grateful for the reassurance of continued support in helping to ensure that these concerns and the issues that matter to our local community, are heard and not overlooked. Having the opportunity to raise them directly and know that they are being taken seriously means a great deal to us.

A huge thank you for taking the time to visit, listen to our concerns and recognise the work of our volunteers.

And thank you, as always, to our wonderful local community for continuing to support us. โค๏ธ

I had the pleasure of meeting with Monika and the Friends of Swanwick Train Station to hear more about the fantastic work they do for our community.

The Friends do a brilliant job of keeping the station looking welcoming and cared for, including maintaining the planters and adding colour with plants. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒธ

The Friends are always grateful for donations, which go directly towards purchasing more planters and plants to continue improving the station for everyone who uses it, donations can be made at their Just Giving Page. https://bit.ly/4gqQySs

A big thank you to Monika and all the Friends for the time, effort and pride they put into making Swanwick Station a better place for the community.

One day to go!!

Tomorrow we will be at the Titchfield Car Boot Sale.

We look forward to seeing you there :)

COME AND SAY HELLO!

We are excited to let you know that Friends of Swanwick Station will be at the Titchfield Car Boot Sale on Sunday, 9 August!

We will have a selection of items for sale to help raise funds for our projects at Swanwick Station. If you are visiting the car boot sale, we would love you to stop by, say hello, have a chat, and perhaps pick up a bargain!

We are also looking for raffle prize donations. If you or your business are able to donate a gift, voucher, hamper item or another suitable prize, we would be incredibly and forever grateful. Perhaps you have a bottle of bubbly, a nice gift set, a box of chocolates, or another unopened gift at home that you are unlikely to use. Rather than letting it gather dust, why not donate it to our raffle? Please get in touch.

Every contribution, big or small, will help us make this event a success and raise funds to support Swanwick Station's projects.

THANK YOU!! โ˜บ๏ธ

๐ŸŒธ A little update... ๐ŸŒธ

Some of the donated flowers have now been planted in a planter we discovered tucked away in the station storage room. After a little TLC, it's looking pretty again and has been given a new lease of life. We have also added some of the donated flowers to the existing planters to make them even more colourful and welcoming.

We are hoping to receive permission to install additional planters at the station soon, and we'll be able to fill them with more of your generously donated plants and flowers, creating an even brighter station for everyone to enjoy.

Once again, we are incredibly grateful for your continued support; it really is making a difference.

Happy Friday, everyone! โ˜บ๏ธ

Now a sleepy commuter stop, it was once one of the busiest stations in the country.

Railway Fact Saturday

Did you know... when Swanwick Station opened in 1889, the railway between Southampton and Fareham was only a single-track line? To keep trains moving safely, Swanwick was built with a crossing loop, an additional stretch of track that allowed trains travelling in opposite directions to pass each other. This made Swanwick an important operating point on the route, helping to keep both passenger trains and the famous strawberry trains running smoothly during the busy harvest season.

It's another example of the clever planning and engineering that kept Victorian railways moving long before today's computer-controlled signalling.

Celebrating Community Kindness ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿš‚

One of the things we have discovered since starting our journey at Swanwick Station is just how incredibly supportive our local community is. Following our recent setback, we were overwhelmed by the messages of encouragement. Every kind word reminded us why we love volunteering at the station.

However, we would like to say a HUGE, HUUUUGE THANK YOU to Roy Young at 97 Fleet End Road, who generously donated a wonderful selection of flowers and plants to help us restore our planters. Roy, we are truly touched by your kindness and generosity. Your support means a great deal to us and we can't wait to plant these and bring colour back to the station for everyone to enjoy.

It's acts of kindness like this that show what a fantastic community we have around Swanwick Station. We couldn't do it without you. Together, we can continue to make the station a welcoming and attractive place for everyone who passes through.

Please share this post to celebrate the kindness, generosity and community spirit that make our area such a wonderful place to live. Let's show more people just how proud we are of our local community and the amazing people who make it so special. Letโ€™s spread a little positivity and recognise those who quietly make a difference every day.
