"Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers ✈️"
Last week, the Parnall Aircraft Company team had the pleasure of mentoring 10 talented students from the TecGirls charity.

From Wednesday to Friday, Tim Cawood explained about Parnall Aircraft company and Women's contribution during WW2, and our engineers guided them through hands-on metalwork — shaping and forming their own mini Spitfire models using machines like the lathe and the English wheel.

The week concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, led by our CEO Mark Parnall, celebrating their hard work, teamwork, and newfound skills.

At Parnall Aircraft Company, we’re proud to support the next generation of innovators — keeping craftsmanship and curiosity alive in aviation.

🛠️ Work Experience Meets Historic Preservation! 🛩️

This week at Parnall Aircraft Company in Trelonk, Cornwall, we had the pleasure of hosting a dedicated young student for a hands-on work experience placement — and what a week it’s been!

He joined our skilled team in supporting with the remanufacturing of a replacement engine cowling for the world’s last remaining flying Fairey Swordfish — a rare and iconic Royal Navy torpedo bomber. 🇬🇧⚓️

One of the highlights? Learning to use the English Wheel to hand-shape precision aluminium panels. His enthusiasm, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn shone through — from the workshop floor to the cockpit of a Spitfire!

It’s moments like these that not only help preserve aviation heritage, but also inspire the next generation of engineers and craftsmen. 👨‍🏭✈️

Under the hood of a legend – The Rolls-Royce Merlin 45"

This week, we uncovered the heart of the MK V Spitfire: the mighty Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine.

With the cowling removed, you can see the full complexity of its overhead camshaft design and 24-valve V12 configuration—a cutting-edge marvel of WWII engineering. At the time, few piston engines matched the Merlin’s blend of power, reliability, and refinement.

Fitted in the early Spitfire Mk V, this engine helped reclaim the skies over Europe in 1941 and was crucial in maintaining air superiority

Ari meets the team!
This week we had the privilege of hosting legendary rally driver and world champion Ari Vatanen at the Colosseum. A true icon in motorsport, Ari took time to meet the team, tour our new space, and share stories of precision, power, and performance.

He also spoke about his late father, who served in the Finnish Air Force—a reminder of the historic legacies that connect us across generations. A true inspiration!

From rally stages to Spitfire wings, it’s all about pushing limits with passion🏎

Big news from the team- the Spitfire is on the move!

We’re in the process of carefully relocating out of the hangar and into our brand-new home: The Colosseum. This is a delicate procedure – transporting the Spitfire will require a lot of precision and care. 🛠️

The move will take place over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned – we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes updates as this exciting transition unfolds.

📸 Keep your eyes on this space for more Spitfire action!

Just like on the original factory floors, they communicate closely throughout the process- passing on not just skills, but the teamwork that built these aircraft in the past!

Precision in Progress: Spitfire Bodywork Takes Shape

We’ve now begun spray painting the skin sections and panels of the port wing. Our team brings new life to Spitfire parts with an accurate finish as per the original.
While interior sections are painted in the classic, historically accurate interior green, all exterior components are finished in silver to replicate the appearance of aluminium. This not only maintains authenticity but also provides protection, unlike the original bare metal finish.
Shown here is the newly acquired replica seat, which includes a leather seat pad (not pictured). Our aim is to replicate the Spitfires as they rolled off the factory floor—gleaming, precise, and built to fly.

✈️ Welcome back, Spitfire followers!

Although we haven’t been posting, we’ve been steadily working through the huge task of building the St Ives Spitfire.

We’re excited to finally share the progress we’ve made—with a big thanks to our new apprentice for their great work so far!

Where are we at?
We’re currently riveting the top skins onto the port wing, giving it the strength and rigidity it needs before the next phase.

What’s next?
We’ll be updating you on a regular basis from here on out—so stay tuned as we bring this incredible aircraft to life!
