Winter storage going on today, should have happened already but the lake levels are like a trampoline at the moment.

Roll on spring!

All the best from the 'sunny' lake district!

We launched my recently completed slipper launch rebuild, Blackbird, today on a perfect august afternoon in Coniston today. The new swim deck sat perfectly where it should do, phew! So happy to see this in the water after we just kept finding more and more work that needed doing on her.

Now we have to find time to do some evening shots to show off the mood lighting.....!

One of my 'offices' this week. Installing rise and fall moorings in a boathouse on Coniston in readiness for the boats I'm building to be housed in here.

The rebuild and conversion to electric of this 1960 slipper launch is in its final stages as the last coats of varnish are applied.

Soon to be launched on Coniston Water, looking forward to seeing this woodwork in the sunshine- which of course we'll have in August in the Lake District...

One of my brilliant timber suppliers, Tom at Heartwood Enterprises, doing what he does best today by removing windfall oak on the Dalemain Mansion estate.

This will form a base for several crooks, the large curved sections required for traditional framing where steamed frames are deemed to be not substantial enough.

It is very difficult to find timber that isn't already cut up into fire wood, so a big thank you to Tom for the heads-up on this one.

I wish I could have been there, but the boatbuilder's vehicle of choice, a Landrover, has decided that it's alternator should live a separate lifestyle to the rest of the vehicle. While I can't deny it's right to identify as an individual, it has made starting the Landy a bit difficult!

If you would like to explore the opportunity to construct or restore a traditional wooden boat, please get in touch, I love nothing more than putting curved bits of oak in a beautiful boat. It also helps purchase Landrover parts....supporting British heritage in two ways!

All the best from sunny Cumbria

I recently received some feedback from the owner of a yacht I rebuilt the front end of a couple of years ago. He has been working steadily away for the last couple of years getting her ready for sea and has had her surveyed prior to launch. This is what I received;

"You asked me to let you know about how the survey went. Well, it went very well indeed! The surveyor inspected her for well over 2 hours and at the end of it admitted that it had been a long time since he surveyed a wooden boat in such good condition. He was particularly complementary on your work to the stem and foredeck area and also agreed that you did the right thing by epoxying the new bilge keels."

Taking something that has potential, working through all the issues you come across and sending out something that is as good or better than the original never loses its charm.

I look forward to seeing her on the water very soon!
