We would like to wish our 2026 Summer Intern, Euan Hamilton, all the very best as he continues his studies at the University of Strathclyde - Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering.

Euan quickly became a valued member of the Voe Marine team and we are delighted that he has agreed to remain with us on a part-time basis while completing his fifth year of study.

Reflecting on his experience, Euan said:

"My summer with Voe Marine was a highly rewarding experience. It provided a great environment to learn from experienced naval architects while giving me my first opportunities to work aboard a vessel during an equipment mobilisation.

This type of experience is invaluable at this stage of my career, and I look forward to continuing my journey with Voe Marine throughout my Master's year."

Our internship programme continues to deliver excellent results, with two former interns now working full-time in our Aberdeen Design Office.

We look forward to supporting Euan during the next stage of his academic and professional journey.

Upgrading a Vessel’s BLP for Modern CTV Operations

Voe Marine was engaged by a client to replace an existing removable Boat Landing Platform (BLP), ensuring it could safely accommodate larger Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) with displacements of up to 150 tonnes.

The key challenge was clear: significantly increasing the operational capacity of the BLP while maintaining its fully removable design and minimising modifications to the host vessel.

Voe Marine delivered the project as a complete turnkey package, covering the full lifecycle from concept to installation. This included:

🔵 Concept development and optioneering
🔵 Structural design of the upgraded BLP arrangement
🔵 Vessel interface and supporting structure design
🔵 Hydrodynamic and operational load assessment (suitable for transit speeds up to 12 knots)
🔵 Finite element analysis and full structural verification
🔵 Seafastening and connection design
🔵 Detailed fabrication drawings
🔵 Fabrication at our Blyth facility
🔵 Installation methodology and on-site assembly support

A strong focus throughout the project was placed on:
🔹 Effective load transfer into the existing vessel structure
🔹 Maintaining compatibility with deck layout and access requirements
🔹 Designing a removable connection system capable of handling increased loads while remaining efficient to install and remove
🔹 Minimising vessel modifications while maximising structural performance
🔹 Ensuring practical, buildable solutions for fabrication and installation

This project demonstrates Voe Marine’s capability to deliver fully integrated marine structures from early-stage engineering through to fabrication, installation, and mobilisation support.

At Voe Marine, we prioritise the development and upskilling of our team. This week, eight of our welders and platers participated in a High Risk Confined Space training course at our fabrication facility at the Port of Blyth.

Eurosafe UK provided their mobile confined space training unit and conducted an informative three-day course for our team.

Investing in specialist training like this strengthens our safety culture and ensures our teams are fully equipped to manage high-risk environments. By improving knowledge of confined space hazards, rescue procedures, and safe systems of work, we reduce risk, enhance compliance, and support more efficient project delivery.

This commitment not only protects our team but also reinforces the high standards our clients expect, positioning Voe Marine as a responsible, safety-focused, and capable partner across all our operations.

We are proud to share another Offshore Wind success story from the Voe Marine team in the North East.

Voe Marine has successfully completed a 12-week mobilisation support scope for the Hornsea 3 Wind Farm, supporting our client Cadeler at the Port of Tyne.

The project involved the manufacture of a range of steel structures at our quayside fabrication facility in the Port of Blyth, followed by transportation to the Port of Tyne where our site fabrication and welding teams carried out the installation works.

To support the installation phase, Voe Marine also provided skilled riggers, working-at-height personnel, rope access technicians and painters, ensuring safe and efficient project delivery throughout.

In addition, Voe Marine was contracted by Cadeler to support the seafastening scope for the mobilisation of the Wind Orca, installing wind farm construction aids on the vessel deck.

Our Naval Architecture team also provided technical support during these works.

Delivered in close collaboration with Cadeler’s onshore and vessel teams, both scopes were completed within tight mobilisation windows—demonstrating what can be achieved through strong partnerships, experienced teams, and a shared commitment to safe, efficient delivery.

We would like to thank Cadeler for their continued trust in Voe Marine, as well as our valued subcontractors across the North East for their support.
