⛔️ M3 Jn9 roundabout closure:
A reminder of the National Highways weekend closure at M3 Jn9 Wi******er/A34 this coming weekend.

Please remember to plan, check online before you travel for the latest info, and please follow the signed diversions and PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW SATNAVs as they may route you on inappropriate or unsuitable routes.

✔️Note: The M3 itself will stay open for those travelling through in both directions, past junction 9 - it's the roundabout junction above it and the slip roads on and off it that are closed.

⚠️Weekend closure date:
9pm Friday 11 September to 6am on Monday 14 September 2026

Weekend Closure Details/Locations:

⛔️A34 southbound will be closed from Bullington Cross
⛔️A34 northbound will be closed to Three Maids Hill, also closing the A33 northbound
⛔️A34 southbound will be closed from Bullington Cross
⛔️A34 northbound will be closed to Three Maids Hill, also closing the A33 northbound
⛔️The A33 southbound will be closed from the Cart and Horses junction
⛔️Easton Lane will be closed both north and southbound at the Easton Lane Roundabout
⛔️The A272 will be closed both northbound and southbound from the Spitfire roundabout (A31)
⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️All M3 junction 9 entry and exit slip roads will be closed both northbound and southbound

Important additional ℹ️Information:
From Monday 14 September until late November 2026 Easton Lane westbound towards Tesco will be reduced to one lane as part of this National Highways project. This is to allow work to start on the embankment and the old southwest subway.

👉Also worth another reminder: National Highways confirm the slip road off the Winall Roundabout onto the M3 northbound at junction 9 remains closed separately, and will stay closed until winter 2027. So even after this weekend, you still won't be able to join the M3 northbound from the roundabout. Diversion routes are in place and signed.

My work isn't only about roads and passenger transport.

Here's an example - visiting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance new base and presenting a donation cheque.

The work the charity do is remarkable. Good to see the new base and visit centre, and learn more about their activities.

🚦 NEW PUFFIN CROSSING - MINLEY ROAD, FARNBOROUGH

A useful highways improvement coming to Minley Road later this month, with support from the local councillors and Rushmoor council.

Hampshire County Council has appointed contractors to install a new signal-controlled Puffin crossing 🚸 on Minley Road, just south of the junction with St John’s Road, following public engagement and input.

What’s a Puffin crossing? It’s a modern 🚦signal-controlled pedestrian crossing that uses sensors to detect people crossing, helping make the crossing safer and more responsive.

📅 Works start: Monday 21 September 2026
⏱️ Duration: Approximately 7 weeks
🕗 Working hours: 8am–6pm

🚦 Three-way temporary traffic lights will be used at the junction only when required, so please allow a little extra time if travelling through the area. Be courteous to other users. Please be aware CCTV or body worn camera monitoring may be in use.

Advance warning signs will be in place and emergency access will be maintained throughout. As always with highways works, timings can be affected by weather. Dates may change at short notice, without advance notice or signage being revised.

💷 The scheme is being funded through developer S106 contributions and grant funding specifically allocated for improvements of this kind. This funding cannot be diverted to general highways maintenance. Highways maintenance is funded separately, with other maintenance and improvement works continuing across Hampshire.

With children now back at school, a reminder to drive considerately for pedestrians - particularly at school crossings.

Farnborough Airport update - expansion of flight numbers and other changes.

I’ve been asked what the latest status is on Farnborough Airports plans for expansion of flight numbers - including at weekend - and other changes.

Rushmoor council’s web pages have been updated with the latest position, following their non-determination of the planning application. and it being raised to the Secretary of State.

There’s also a useful article here, and the airport posts it's own too. https://www.farnhamherald.com/news/planning/farnborough-airport-seeks-planning-inspector-decision-on-flights-application-919719

Effectively, because Rushmoor (the planning authority responsible) hadn’t determined the decision in the prescribed time, it’s been escalated to the Secretary of State, who will now make one.

This affects a lot of people across a wide area, including in Church Crookham and Farnborough nearby which are under the flight path. Changes should drive benefit this across this and a wider area including g due to creating employment and driving the local economy, but there's also concerns of a potential negative impact on areas such as air quality or noise.

Farnborough Airports consultation pages were on https://farnboroughairport2040.com/?cn-reloaded=1

I'll post further updates in due course

Wi******er Highways drainage work around Pitt Roundabout (Romsey Road/Badger Farm Road junction

Highways drainage work is scheduled here from 7th -23rd September according to One.Network - with a diversion in place.

As this is a main route into Wi******er, I understand a few asked if this is an overnight closure or if it the road will closed 24/7, and I’d like to thank Jan Warwick for raising a concern.

Detail below but a summary shows that it’s night works only and they should not put up Traffic Management, or work during the M3 J9 works or some other works already planned.

——

Detail: I can confirm it’s booked as night works only between 20:00 and 06:00. No works or traffic management shall be in place from the night of 11 September through to 06:00 on 14 September, nor from the night of 19 September through to 06:00 on 21 September, due to other planned works and events on the network.

A lane closure only shall be in place on the night of 15 September.

Outside of the permitted working hours, all traffic management should be fully removed, and the highway remain clear, unobstructed, and operating at normal capacity.

The M27 Junction 10 will be opening early, in phases, starting in under 2 weeks.
