Our Duffield Shopper Special departs Duffield at 8.20am on Saturday 5 September!

This special service is designed to bring visitors from Duffield into Wirksworth, giving you plenty of time to explore the Wirksworth Farmers' Market, browse the stalls and enjoy everything the town has to offer.

Once you’ve finished shopping, there’s no need to rush — you can catch any of our regular services back to Duffield, so you can enjoy Wirksworth at your own pace.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic weekend in Wirksworth as the town comes alive for the Wirksworth Festival!

If you’re visiting the Festival, why not make a trip on the railway part of your day?

🚂 The Duke will be hauling our regular passenger services between Wirksworth and Duffield, giving you the chance to enjoy a steam-hauled journey through the beautiful Ecclesbourne Valley.

🚆 Alongside our regular services, we’ll also be running additional Festival Special trains, operated by our heritage DMU, giving visitors even more opportunities to travel during the Festival.

Whether you’re coming specifically for the railway or spending the day exploring everything the Wirksworth Festival has to offer, we’d love to welcome you aboard!

Wirksworth Festival: A Rail, Trail & Heritage Journey

Join us on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026 as the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway becomes part of Wirksworth Festival’s Art & Architecture Trail!

Travel from Duffield aboard one of our dedicated Festival Special trains, departing at 9.27am and 12.03pm. Your ticket includes return rail travel and admission to the Festival, bringing you straight into the heart of Wirksworth.

Explore a town transformed into a remarkable gallery, with more than 140 artists and makers exhibiting and selling their work across over 70 venues. Discover art inside stone cottages, Georgian townhouses, gardens, courtyards, churches and other historic spaces.

There will also be live entertainment aboard both Festival Special trains, while two static coaches on Platform 3 will host displays by festival artists.

Make the journey part of your festival experience and enjoy a wonderful day of heritage rail travel, art and creativity!

Fancy a trip to the Wirksworth Farmers' Market with a little time to explore? Our Duffield Shopper Special is a great way to enjoy a journey along the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway while making the most of the market in Wirksworth town centre.

Travel from Duffield to Wirksworth, then head into the town to browse the shops, grab a coffee, enjoy some lunch or simply have a wander before returning to the railway for your journey home.

And remember – our regular steam service is running too! 🚂

We can’t wait to welcome The Duke back to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway!

Following scheduled maintenance and safety challenges due to the prolonged drought, The Duke will soon be back where it belongs, taking to the rails once again through the beautiful Ecclesbourne Valley.

A firm favourite with visitors, volunteers and photographers alike, it’s always a fantastic sight to see The Duke out on the line — and we’re looking forward to seeing it back in action very soon.
