Don’t let your old vacuum battery become a fire risk 🔥

Many cordless vacuum cleaners are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. If these batteries are thrown in the bin, they can be crushed in bin lorries or at waste facilities, causing lethal fires.

If you’re replacing your vacuum or its battery, recycle them safely at a local community recycling centre, a participating retailer recycling scheme or check if your local council provides a small electricals collection.

We had the pleasure of joining Suez to speak with residents about Surrey's fabulous Revive shops and of course, reducing our waste and all things recycling too!

🌱 We had a fantastic time at the Goodwyns Community Support Day in Dorking, joining Surrey County Council and other local organisations to share advice and support with residents.

Throughout the day, we spoke to people about reducing waste, recycling more and making the most of Surrey's Revive re-use shops, where quality pre-loved items can find a second life.

Our buzz wire game, handmade at the Surrey Eco Park, was a big hit too, keeping some of our younger visitors entertained while learning more about sustainability! ⚡

Events like these are a great opportunity to connect with local communities, share practical ways to save money and reduce waste, and help make sustainable choices easier for everyone.

Don’t throw battery-powered toys in the bin 🚫

Many toys contain hidden batteries that can spark dangerous fires if they’re damaged. Before disposing of an old toy, check whether it contains a battery. If possible, remove the battery and recycle it separately.

Not all batteries are easy to spot! Many children’s toys contain hidden batteries that can cause serious fires if they’re thrown away in your household bin. When batteries are crushed in bin lorries they can ignite and put people at risk 🔥

Before you throw away an old toy, check if it contains a battery. Remove the battery and recycle both the battery and the toy separately.

Electrical toys can be:
• passed on for reuse (or repair!)
• taken to your local community recycling centre
• returned to a participating retailer
• recycled kerbside if your local council offers a small electricals collection
