Pop a lid on it. Plastic and metal squeezy tubes, like toothpaste or tomato puree tubes, can be recycled at home. Simply empty as much of the product as possible, pop the lid back on and place the tube into your mixed recycling bin alongside everything you already recycle.

Think before you throw. Batteries and items containing batteries can spark dangerous fires if placed in your bin 🔥

Lithium-ion batteries are more dangerous than conventional household batteries because they release highly flammable gases as they burn, allowing fires to relight repeatedly making them difficult to extinguish. These fires spread quickly, produce toxic fumes and are one of the fastest growing fire risks in Surrey.

Not all batteries are easy to spot! Many children’s toys contain hidden batteries that can cause serious fires if they’re thrown away in your household bin. When batteries are crushed in bin lorries, they can ignite and put waste workers at risk.

Before you throw away an old toy, check if it contains a battery. Remove the battery and if you can, recycle both the battery and the toy separately.

Electrical toys can be:
• passed on for reuse (or repair!)
• taken to your local community recycling centre
• returned to a participating retailer
• recycled kerbside if your local council offers a small electricals collection

Did you know vapes have batteries hidden within them? When vapes are incorrectly disposed of, they can get crushed in bin lorries and at waste facilities, sparking lethal fires.

You can recycle your vapes by taking them to a local community recycling centre, a local shop, or in some areas of Surrey, residents can recycle vapes in their small electricals kerbside collection.
