It's been a busy couple of weeks for us but I've got a few minutes while I wait for some food to cook.

We're now about 2 weeks from being able to remove the tail from G-LOFB, we're just waiting for a few more railway sleepers and the quick and easy disconnection of two more control cables and one air duct which go through the rear bulkhead.

As part of this we have removed the roof panels from the rear of FB from the port rear door back to the bulkhead, disconnected all but two control cables into the tail section as well as all the wires and ducting, and we have made weight and balance assessments ready for the work.

We have also removed another 3/4kg of screws and as always drilled out more than we've removed from the wing / fuselage fillet panels, these are mostly ready to remove now bar a few stubborn screws which have broken screwdriver tips stuck in them, these will be dealt with using small 1 inch grinding wheels which fit on our drills to grind the head of the screw out along with the washer but without damaging the panels themselves before removing the remaining screw stubs as part of the restoration process later.

No fresh pictures as I'm uploading this from my PC and haven't transferred the photos from the last couple of weekends so I'll upload them soon with more details of the work we've done, so until then please enjoy this drone video made by Duane of LOFB, I'm sure there'll be some more of these before too long too πŸ˜‰

Here's a quick drone shot of the Electra that Duane managed to grab for us on Sunday morning before we removed the starboard flap, from the Electra and it's probably some of our favorite footage yet of G-LOFB, maybe we should recreate this video when we've got her back together and looking her best? πŸ˜‰

Here's a few photos of us opening the No.3 Fuel Tank on G-LOFB at the weekend.

This weekend was an amazing success, we opened the freight door all the way for the first time, it's quite the sight to see it towering over you for the first time as I'm sure some ex crew could verify.

The starboard flap has been removed and added to the still growing pile of parts.

We've removed another leading edge panel (On the port wing this time) and a few more wing root panels.

And we also opened the No.3 Fuel Tank to check the contents as the guage is showing that there's approximately 4650lbs of fuel in there, fortunately the fuel tank is empty so that's one less problem to deal with, but there was a strong smell of Jet A1 as soon as we cracked the lid so we left it open to ventilate the tank a bit. There's still some fuel in the pipes to deal with but at most there'll be around 150l.

We also helped the XV232 crew remove their port aileron, and this coming weekend the starboard aileron should be off her too.

Big thank you to Ollie, Duane, Sean and everyone else for your help and support, special thanks to Duane for bringing his drone down as well to get some spectacular shots of LOFB and XV232 that we'll be sharing later πŸ‘

Last weekend was great but we're hoping this weekend will be even better, we're planning to get the other flap off G-LOFB as well as more wing root and leading edge panels. We'll also be preparing the vertical stabiliser root above the fuselage and the tail section for removal in the coming weeks.

We'll be having a talk with the XV232 crew as well to see how much we can help them, we'll have more to tell you after this weekend.

Until then here's a few Electra photos just for attention and to keep everyone happy πŸ‘

Today we managed to drop the port flap from G-LOFB, was a bit of an adventure and we have one pin / shouldered bolt stuck in each flap runner so we decided that rather that the best way forwards was to dismantle the entire flap runners instead.

Took us about two hours to dismantle all the flap runners, and we've decided that we'll do the starboard side in the same manner rather than hoping all the pins / bolts come out again.

We also managed to remove the ailerons and one of the elevators from inside the aircraft, removed about 2kg of screws from various wing root panels, drilled out more screws than we've removed, and showed a couple of people around the aircraft.

Thank you again to Ollie, Sean and Kevin for helping us today, and thanks to everyone who came to see the aircraft too 😁

Next week we'll be removing the other flap on the Saturday and preparing the tail section for removal on the Sunday, as well as removing and drilling out more screws around the centre section over both days.

Just a few photos from while we were measuring the aircraft tonight, can't remember all the measurements for both of them off the top of my head but the Nimrod is 108 feet long AFTER everything removable's been taken off so someone's definitely doing some VR1 Forms, glad that particular headache won't be mine that's for sure πŸ˜‚

The Electra rudder alone is also a whopping 17 feet tall (Although it doesn't look it when it's lying down on the floor, we had to triple check to be sure) and the tail section height from the lowest point to the top of the rudder is 28'7"

It's been a good day at Coventry Airport today, we've removed a huge number of fasteners from across the Electra and we have also started removing the starboard flap.

Seeing as we're getting on with the Electra so well we've also given the Nimrod crew a hand today to remove the outer flaps from XV232, and we've also had someone come out tonight to take detailed measurements of both aircraft for transport.

It's looking like there could be some exciting news for everyone on the horizon so make sure to follow the page so you can get the news as soon as it's released, I'll put up a proper post tomorrow 'cause it's 5 past midnight and we're only just packing up but for now thank you to Ollie, Dave, Kevin, Sean and Jordy for your help today guys really appreciate it as always πŸ‘

We did a little late shift tonight, just locking up and leaving now πŸ˜‚

Here you can see the progress we made last weekend removing the starboard lower wing / fuselage skin fillet panels, these have put up quite a fight and we've had to drill out a large number of screws but we're making good headway and we should have quite a few more off by the end of this weekend.

Next step once the skins are off is to properly disconnect all the pipes, cables, wiring and ducting so we can remove the wings.
