Conference on Women in Leadership in the Public Sector
Theme: Breaking Barriers, Building Impact: Advancing Womenâs Leadership in the Resetting Ghana Agenda
The Public Service Commission convened a highâlevel conference on Women in Leadership in the Public Sector under the theme âBreaking Barriers, Building Impact: Advancing Womenâs Leadership in the Resetting Ghana Agenda.â The conference underscored the indispensable role of women in driving institutional transformation and advancing Ghanaâs national development agenda.
A central focus of the deliberations was the implementation of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121). This landmark legislation establishes a binding framework to promote gender equity and progressively increase womenâs representation in leadership and decisionâmaking positions across the public sector. Participants emphasized the urgency of deliberate institutional reforms, robust compliance mechanisms, effective monitoring frameworks, and sustained capacityâbuilding initiatives to ensure the full operationalisation of the Act.
The event was graced by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Naana OpokuâAgyemang, alongside Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Hon. Ebi Bright, and other distinguished dignitaries. Their presence reaffirmed governmentâs unwavering commitment to advancing womenâs leadership and enforcing genderâresponsive policies.
The conference concluded with a resounding call for collective action to dismantle systemic barriers, deliver measurable impact, and entrench womenâs leadership as a strategic pillar of Ghanaâs Resetting Agenda.
