✨ With the month of May, we have closed a prolonged travel season that kept us busy for the past 6 months.
🌍We met many wonderful travellers from all over the world, explored places off the beaten track, and challenged ourselves in many new ways.
👑Our recent tour with Dmitry and his adventure travellers felt like the perfect crown on the season, a beautiful exploration of rites of passage, warrior dances and the always colourful Akwasidea.
🐌Now it’s time to slow down a little, catch our breath, and reflect on all that the 2025/2026 season brought us, while preparing ourselves for the new West Africa Travel season already waiting around the corner.

Meet the people of Onigbolo, who belong to the Holi ethnic group in South-Eastern Benin. They are renowned for their distinctive ways of self-beautification, characterised by striking hairstyles, textiles, and, in particular, body tattoos and facial scarification.

These marks aren’t just decorative. They tell stories of family, origin, and identity. Among women, they’re also linked to beliefs about fertility and motherhood.

A powerful tradition which faded among other ethnic groups, they kept for centuries, even till today.
