Reflection: The Power of Our Words as Ministers

As ministers of the Gospel, we are called to be mindful of the impact our words have on others. When we publicly criticize or "castigate" each other, we can cause harm to the body of Christ and undermine the faith of those who look up to us.
A Biblical Reminder
Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that "the tongue has the power of life and death." As ministers, we must be careful with our words, choosing to speak life and encouragement rather than death and destruction.
The Example of Christ
Philippians 2:3-4 encourages us to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." As ministers, we must strive to follow Christ's example, prioritizing humility and love in our interactions with others.
Constructive Dialogue
Even when addressing difficult issues or disagreements, we must strive for constructive dialogue rather than public criticism. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us to "speak truthfully and lovingly," seeking to build each other up rather than tear each other down.
Accountability
As ministers, we are accountable to God and to each other for our words and actions. Let us strive to maintain the unity and integrity of the body of Christ, choosing to speak life and encouragement rather than death and destruction.
