One thing nobody really prepares you for when you arrive in Accra is how much the city runs on relationships. One thing nobody really prepares you for when you land in Accra is how much the food alone will keep you grounded. Waakye on a Sunday morning from a spot in Osu or La, wrapped in leaves, eaten on a plastic chair with sh*to and fried fish, and you start to understand why people come here and just never leave. One thing nobody warned me about Accra is how much of real life happens outside. Breakfast from a woman frying koose at the roadside, afternoon conversations under a tree, evenings at a spot where the plastic chairs fill up fast and the music is just loud enough. If you spend your whole trip inside malls and hotel restaurants you will miss the actual texture of the city. Give yourself at least one full day with no agenda and just follow what smells good.
