Today was a Saturday and knowing what i had to do intried to wake up early eventhough we woke up late, determined to tackle the issues with my car andvsend Kayla to school for her Saturday classes which stsrts at 8am. We were late though due to lateness on my side and the queue at the waakye joint, meanwhile i had a few beers on Friday too, but that is mot an issue, anaaa???
The engine had been stalling and idling roughly lately after some work was done on the camshaft and I needed to get to the bottom of it as it was consuming Fuel and it was getting a bit frustrating when the engine goes off... after dropping off my daughter at school my first stop was the mechanic's workshop at about 9 am. But, before i got there i called him about my arrivalI and he said he is going to Accra so i was met by an empty chair and his apprentice who said Issah has gone to Accra, promising to return within an hour... can you imagine?? It was actually Abossey Okai in Accra.
Aahh well, i waited patiently whiles catching some sleep, watching the clock tick away. As the hours passed, my patience began to wear thin. By midday, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work with the apprentice to see why my engine oil still leaks around the sump and oil filter which he did what he can. Still, the mechanic was nowhere to be found, I didn't bother calling him bcos I knew the traffic situation and no one can leave Tema to Abbosey Okai and return in an hour time.
Frustrated, I left for my electrician at Comm 9, Tema. Again, I found myself waiting as when i got there he was wirking on a vehicle so i was patient, this time for about an hour too meanwhile i had not eaten heavily by then. As the afternoon wore on, I decided to leave to pick up my daughter from school at it was almost 3pm. Just as I was about to leave, the electrician called Electric appeared, asking for my car keys and promising to return in five minutes.
When he returned, he explained the problem, but I wanted to see the diagnostics for myself. He showed me a photo of the final results, but my concerns lingered. I suspected the issue was with the camshaft timing or sensor, a relatively heavy to fix cost but very important. Then diagnostic cost GHC100. Hhhmm but it's all good...
As I left the workshop i decided to go see my best friend and business partner Samuel Brew to hv a small chat. I couldn't shake off the feeling of frustration. Why do roadside mechanics seem to disregard time? Why can't they prioritize customer care and honesty? I will always stand for electric, if he can't solve it he will say it and recommend someone to you. It's not just about fixing cars; it's about respecting people's time and trust.
Throughout the day, I couldn't help but wonder if these mechanics realize the value of transparency and punctuality. This car that i drive are my legs to work, take kids to school, travel with and my mode of transportation. Do they know how much their lack of communication and reliability affects their customers? I hope that someday, they'll understand that time is precious, and honesty is the best policy.
Sometimes, we get used to it but it brings me to the point whereby mechanic do "ma try ma kw3" then they put the cost on us, the car owner, hhmmm
Well, now that I know it's half fixed. Next point is to find solution and Almighty electrician has recommend someone already saying its a days job but I do not know how much it will cost...
My daughter is home now, I went in for a ref tech to solve an issue on my fridge at home and that too no spare parts until they search during the week so one day at a time... step by step. A beer will definitely help to bring the day to a successful day.
Tomorrow, is AOBA Tema AGM in community 10, Tema so I will be there to see old and new Sataclausians then Monday again, back to square one. What a world....
Hv a nice weekend...
