Today, we continue our journey through 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐝𝐲𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲 by revealing Stage 5 of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.
Our adventure now reaches its third and final destination: the magnificent Mount Pelion, a land steeped in mythology and blessed with extraordinary natural beauty.
According to ancient Greek legend, Pelion was the homeland of the wise Centaur Chiron, teacher of heroes such as Achilles, Jason and Asclepius. It was a place where knowledge, healing and heroic virtue were nurtured, making it one of the most legendary mountains of Greece.
Far from the usual tourist routes, Pelion remains one of Greece’s best-kept secrets. Here, lush green mountains plunge into the crystal waters of the Aegean Sea, time slows down, and tradition lives quietly in stone-built villages and ancient footpaths. It is a place where mountain and sea coexist in perfect harmony, creating one of the most enchanting landscapes in the country.
During this stage, runners will have the unique opportunity to pass through two of Greece’s most iconic traditional villages, Makrinitsa and Portaria. They will experience their authentic architecture, charming cobbled streets and spectacular views stretching across both the Aegean Sea and the Pagasetic Gulf.
Despite its relatively modest elevation of 1,624 metres, Mount Pelion receives significant snowfall during winter and is even home to a ski resort. Standing between two seas, it possesses a unique character found nowhere else in Greece.
Comfortable dirt roads and flowing forest trails winding through magnificent beech forests will allow runners to fully absorb the atmosphere, breathe the fresh mountain air and experience the magic of this hidden corner of Greece.
