🐾 The friendliest little locals on Paros 😻

One of the things I love about Paros is how often the cats simply come up to you.

No introduction needed.
No invitation required.
Just a curious little face, a soft meow and suddenly… you have a new friend. 🐈‍⬛🐈

Some are shy, some are bold, and some apparently believe your camera is an excellent place to investigate. 😸

They are such a part of everyday island life, wandering through the streets, sleeping in sunny corners, and happily accepting a little attention whenever it’s offered.

✨ Have you noticed these little silver and gold plaques in Greek churches?

They are called tamata — small votive offerings left by people as a prayer, a thank-you, or a promise.

And their shapes often have a meaning: a person, a body part, a baby, a heart… representing what someone is praying for or giving thanks for.

At Ekatontapiliani, you can find them hanging together in little clusters, each one carrying a private story that we may never know.

Perhaps that is what makes them so beautiful.

💙 Panagia Ekatontapiliani — Paros

Standing quietly in the heart of Parikia, Ekatontapiliani is one of the oldest and most important early-Christian monuments in Greece.

Its story reaches back to the 4th century, while the church took much of its present form during the reign of Emperor Justinian in the 6th century.

Stone, marble, arches and centuries of history, all gathered in one extraordinary place.

And perhaps that is what makes Ekatontapiliani so special:
you don't just see history here.

Look closely at the walls of Parikia’s Kastro 🪨✨️

What looks like a jumble of old stones is actually a little piece of Paros’ ancient history.

The Venetian castle was built here in 1260, on the site of the ancient acropolis. Ancient marble from temples and other buildings was reused in its walls.

And the round marble pieces are remnants of ancient architectural elements, still sitting here centuries later.

A wall with more history than meets the eye. 💙

Look at these colours! 💙💛💚❤️

Crispy kolokythokeftedes, homemade-style dolmadakia, golden fries, creamy tzatziki and a Greek salad packed with fresh vegetables, feta and olives…

And the best part? Everything tastes even better when you're sitting somewhere on Paros, with the sea nearby and absolutely no reason to hurry. 🇬🇷☀️

Give me this kind of lunch over a fancy restaurant any day. 😋
