“An effective regulatory framework evolves alongside technology, industry, and society. The discussions in Brussels reinforced my optimism that the positive environmental results achieved so far will continue to guide future decisions and at e:misia, we are always glad to bring evidence and analysis to the table. It was great to exchange views with experts, policymakers, and stakeholders on how the sector is evolving, and on the challenges ahead, particularly in relation to innovation, emerging propulsion technologies, and future environmental priorities. Looking forward to the next steps of the evaluation and the continued dialogue!”

Our Managing Director, Giorgos Mellios, contributed last week to the DG GROW Expert Group Meeting on the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) in Brussels.

At e:misia, we supported the evaluation by assessing the environmental impacts of the Directive, focusing on emissions reductions and their monetised health benefits. Our analysis confirms that the updated emission standards deliver clear net environmental benefits over time, driven primarily by significant reductions in NOx and particulate matter.

This is e:misia for smarter legislation!

experts on duty!

During the latest Meeting, our team contributed across two transport sessions focused on the future of European emission inventories and methodologies.

✅ COPERT 5.10 | Coming September 2026

We presented the upcoming COPERT 5.10 updates, the estimated impact of these changes on national emission inventories and exchanged feedback with road transport experts and emission inventory compilers from across Europe.

The new version includes revised fuel consumption factors for liquid fuel LDVs, updated emission factors for PHEV/HEV and CNG passenger cars, revised emission factors for L-category vehicles, the introduction of Battery Electric Trucks, as well as regular software improvements and bug corrections.

✅ EMEP/EEA Guidebook Update Project

EMISIA has been entrusted by the European Commission (DG ENV) to lead the update of selected items within the Emission Inventory Guidebook for the transport chapters, including road transport, NRMM, navigation and aviation.

We presented the results from the systematic and comprehensive review of relevant data sources (Task 1) and the proposed improvements (Task 2) before start drafting of updates for the next generation of transport inventory chapters (Task 3).

Stay tuned for more updates!

New project!

We are excited to be among the teams entrusted to work on , a project co-financed by the European Union and Greek national funds, exploring the potential of H₂ as an energy carrier for future zero-carbon trucks through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Our experts combine e:misia’s in-house powertrain model-based analysis with fleet-level life-cycle assessment to evaluate all potential uses of hydrogen in long-distance transport, including fuel cells and internal combustion technologies.

Our approach includes:
⚙️ Physicochemical modeling
of all energy- and environment-relevant components
⚙️ Degradation modeling
to support lifetime predictions
⚙️ Model calibration & validation
using established methods and advanced measurements
⚙️ Collaboration with leading research partners
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki & CERTH

Our goal:
🎯 to support informed decision-making on hydrogen adoption in road transport and contribute to the transition toward climate-neutral mobility.

HYTRUCK is co-financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Program COMPETITIVENESS under the call RESEARCH–INNOVATE.

Our in action, to provide clear, auditable, decision-ready data!

PEOPLE Technology Omni Platform has integrated the GreenLight CO₂ Reporting API to support reliable, standards aligned emissions reporting.

With this integration, the platform now enables:

🟢 CO₂e calculations based on primary fuel and activity data
🟢 Detailed emission intensities for any aggregation level
🟢 Reporting aligned with ISO 14083 and the GLEC Framework
🟢 A solid foundation for future proof carbon reporting

This integration was recently showcased as a live use case at Smart Freight Week, demonstrating how digital platforms can move from averages to auditable results.

It takes two to spread the good news: is expanding further across and alternative fuels!

If you want a deep dive into valleys and H2 utilization in road transport, as well as identifying the optimal charging plan for electric trucks along a given route, our emission experts Stelios Doulgeris and Michalis Perdikopoulos will join two exceptional road transport events to share the latest advancements of GreenLight.

Stelios will participate in The Transport Research Arena (TRA) Conference hosted in Budapest on 18-21/5/2026 to present the study conducted under TH2ICINO Project, regarding the transition of diesel fueled vehicles to H2-fueled powertrains and the environmental benefit potential.

Michalis will participate in the 6th edition of the “CO2 Reduction for Transportation Systems Conference – The road to decarbonization” organized by ANFIA – the Italian Association of the Automotive Industry – and the SAE International Torino Section, in Turin on 9-10 June. He will showcase the importance of integrating accurate energy consumption calculation in the charging planning of electric trucks.

This is how GreenLight works — a continuous connection between science and real-world application.

Are you joining any of these two events?
We will be happy to meet and talk about GreenLight – send us a DM or contact us via our Contact Form: https://greenlight.emisia.com/contact-us/
