Could Lefkada be the real home of Odysseus?
More than 100 years ago, German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld became convinced that Homer’s Ithaca was not modern-day Ithaca at all, but Lefkada. He spent years exploring and excavating sites around the island, particularly near Nidri, searching for evidence to support his theory. While his conclusions remain debated, his work uncovered important archaeological sites and left a lasting mark on Lefkada’s history.
