🍺🏛️ One of Europe’s oldest breweries is now among its most endangered heritage sites
The historic Weifert Brewery in Pančevo (Serbia) has been included in the 2026 list of the 7 Most Endangered Heritage Sites in Europe, announced by Europa Nostra.

Founded in 1722, it is not only one of Europe’s earliest breweries, but also the oldest brewery in the Balkans, located at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe.
Once a symbol of innovation and prosperity under the Weifert family, its beers won international recognition, including awards at the Paris World Expos of 1889 and 1900. Beyond production, the brewery was also a vibrant social and cultural hub, hosting concerts, theatre performances, and community events.

Today, however, this 14,000 m² industrial complex stands abandoned and structurally unstable after decades of underfunding, unresolved ownership, fire damage, and neglect.
🌍 Its inclusion on the Europa Nostra list brings new hope for professional support and revitalisation.

🏺 Thousands of years ago, the Vučedol Culture flourished here, crafting intricate ceramics, tools, and rituals that still fascinate archaeologists today. Their most famous creation? The Vučedol Dove, a beautifully decorated vessel that has become a national symbol of Croatia 🇭🇷.

⚒️ These people were among the earliest metalworkers in Europe, mastering copper smelting long before it was common elsewhere. They lived in harmony with the river, building settlements that blended practicality with artistry.

🌊 Standing at Vučedol, overlooking the Danube, you don’t just see water flowing—you feel the flow of history, innovation, and human creativity.

🏛️ Today, the Vučedol Culture Museum & Archaeological Site brings this fascinating story to life. Serbia, You Stole Our Hearts!
An afternoon full of soul, tradition, and flavor in Serbia’s vibrant capital!

Our Aussie River Cruise guests were welcomed with open arms in Belgrade, where they had the chance to experience authentic Serbian family traditions in the most heartfelt way.
From learning traditional folk dances to tasting warm, freshly baked bread topped with local delicacies, every moment was rich with joy and connection.

Unforgettable memories were made – laughter, music, and true hospitality filled the air.

And what did our Cruise Manager have to say?
"The place is sensational! The host family, the guides, the food – all absolutely amazing!"

☀️ Osijek sunshine & Vukovar flavors!

What a perfect day we had with our wonderful River Cruise group from Australia!
The sun was shining brightly over Osijek as we explored its charming streets and welcoming vibe.

But the real highlight? 🍻 Vukovar's flavors!
Our Aussie friends couldn’t get enough of the local ćevapčići (juicy mini grilled sausages) paired with locally brewed beer – a true taste of Croatian hospitality!

And to make the day even more special,
each guest received a colorful licitar heart – a beautiful token of love and tradition, recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Croatia.
A heartfelt gift from their guides, to carry a piece of Croatia home with them!

Nestled in the charming town of Erdut, Croatia, lies a marvel of winemaking: the world's largest wine barrel still in use! Crafted in 1989 from 150-year-old Slavonian oak, this colossal barrel holds an astounding 75,000 liters of wine—equivalent to 100,000 bottles!

Adorned with intricate Croatian wicker reliefs and a depiction of the Last Supper, this barrel isn't just a container—it's a testament to Erdut's rich viticultural heritage.

Legend has it that Count Ervin once used this very barrel as a secret hideaway to play cards, away from prying eyes.
