Guests who inspire us: Meet Dr. MarkAlain Dery, a true hot rod fan, real rockabilly soul and devoted warrior against infectious diseases. An expert in the field of HIV and other viruses, Dr Dery is also the founder and leader of the community radio station WHIV in New Orleans.
Dr Dery surprised us when he visited us in the summer of 2018 and asked if he could use the “Semmelweiser” on our counter. Never heard anybody twist the word hand sanitizer that way... Soon it turned out that it was to commemorate Ignaz Semmelweis, the Hungarian physician and scientist, early pioneer of antiseptic procedures.
Today Google commemorates Semmelweis as the first to stress the importance of hand washing - an issue that is vital again. And we salute all the medical professionals and researchers on the frontline of the fight for our health and safety. And wish them a world where people listen to them.
