ELO is now alive on our website!

We are excited to inform you that submission of an ELO declaration is now available directly through our website.

For those moving road freight between the UK and France, the ELO Port Pass is now mandatory.

The ELO (Envelope Logistique Obligatoire) is a newly introduced customs envelope designed to ensure that all mandatory customs formalities have been completed prior to a vehicle’s arrival at the port.

While obtaining the pass is the responsibility of the haulier, we’re here to support you. Visit our website to quickly and easily create your ELO.

Customs Update – Key Changes to Know

📄 TRN Mandatory from 26 March 2026

➡️ HMRC requires a Trailer Reference Number (TRN) in the GMR whenever a trailer is used. If you declare a trailer during GMR creation, you must enter the TRN — the GMR cannot be completed without it.

📄 ENS Declarations – Don’t Miss These
ENS (Security & Safety) declarations are required for all UK–France movements:

✅Calais/Dunkerque → Dover:
ENS declaration for UK must be submitted in the S&S GB system and linked to the GMR before terminal arrival

✅Dover → Calais/Dunkerque: ENS declaration for France must be submitted in the ICS2 system and linked to the ELO prior to arrival at the Dover ferry terminal

✅ELO barcode
✅GMR barcode
✅CMR
✅IMDG DGN (if carrying dangerous goods)

⏱️ Speed Up Check-in
Pre-lodge GMR & ELO barcodes during booking to avoid delays. Hazardous goods documents can also be uploaded in advance.

➡️ Autolist vehicles don’t need pre-lodgement, but all barcodes and documents must still be presented at the terminal.

Important Update: Mandatory ELO Customs for UK–France Border Crossings

ON 20th April 2026, the ELO customs system will become mandatory for all hauliers importing or exporting goods between the United Kingdom and France.

To ensure smooth border operations, all transport operators must complete the ELO process before crossing. Please review the steps below carefully to remain compliant.

✅ Step 1.
Create the ENS (Entry Summary Declaration) and all required exporter/importer documents.

✅ Step 2.
Upload the data from Step 1 into the ELO.

✅ Step 3.
check-in. Present the barcode at the border to validate.

✅ Step 4.
A risk analysis will be conducted by the authorities. The vehicle’s status will be displayed on ferry screens.

✅ Step 5.
Vehicles will be directed into designated lanes by the authorities:

🟢 Green Lane – No further checks required; continue delivery.
🟠 Orange Lane – Additional checks required; the driver must report to the customs office at the first point of entry.

Ensure all documentation and data are accurate to avoid delays.

📢 Important: MGO BAF prices increase because of fuel price change ⛴️

Due to the ongoing geopolitical situation and volatility in global fuel markets, marine fuel prices have seen a sharp rise in recent weeks, which will affect MGO BAF starting from April.

Key Update:
✅ Ferry operators have announced that this increase will be reflected in the upcoming monthly adjustment of the MGO BAF.
✅ The next adjustment is expected to result in approximately 100% increase in MGO BAF.
✅ As per standard practice, the surcharge will continue to be reviewed and updated monthly.

NEWS: EU ETS Charges Rising in 2026 ⚓🌍

From 1 July 2026, the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) will extend to cover maritime transport. This expansion, under The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Order 2020, includes domestic ferry routes. The following routes are affected: Larne-Cairnryan; Belfast-Cairnryan; Heysham-Belfast; Liverpool-Belfast.

Shipping operators will need to monitor their greenhouse gas emissions and purchase allowances to cover them, marking a major step toward reducing emissions across the maritime sector.

🚨 Important: from April, 20 ELO will be mandatory🚨

ELO (Envelope Logistique Obligatoire) is a new customs envelope that confirms all customs formalities are completed before arrival at the port.

ELO replaces the previous customs envelope and applies to loaded or empty vehicles, in both EU–UK and UK–EU directions. It helps speed up port checks by using one barcode that gives access to all linked customs declarations.

📄 Documents needed for ELO:

➡️ From EU to UK (one of the following):
• Export declaration
• ATA Carnet
• TIR Carnet
• Transit declaration

⬅️ From UK to EU:
• T1 declaration, ATA Carnet, or TIR Carnet
• ENS (Entry Summary Declaration) for the EU

Who is responsible for creating the ELO?

Based on the same principle as GMR, the carrier is responsible for creating the ELO. This can also be done by a company authorised to act on behalf of the carrier.
