The waters of Eastern Indonesia hold a quiet majesty, offering a sanctuary for some of the planet's most vital marine ecosystems. Navigating the remote expanse of Cenderawasih Bay aboard Silolona Sojourns is an invitation to experience luxurious exploration that is genuinely purposeful.

Through our conservation-led expedition charters, developed in collaboration with marine conservation scientist Dr. Mark Erdmann, guests actively participate in ongoing research initiatives. Within Cenderawasih Bay and Triton Bay, our voyages revisit pioneering whale shark research first conducted aboard Silolona expedition vessels more than a decade ago.

In this remarkable region, scientists have identified approximately 300 individual whale sharks, predominantly juvenile males. Yet, with little monitoring occurring in recent years, our guests play a vital role by photographing these gentle giants for identification databases. During quiet morning encounters, guests can also learn laser photogrammetry techniques to measure shark size underwater, helping to reassess the growth rates of individuals first recorded between 2011 and 2019.
