You didn’t choose the wrong wood. It may have been placed too close to the ground.

In tropical projects, wood performance is not only determined by species, treatment, or finish. The ground detail matters.

When wood is placed too close to soil, wet paving, planter edges, grass, or areas where water collects, moisture can stay at the base for longer than expected.

That can increase the risk of:
• retained moisture
• decay
• termite access
• staining
• shorter service life
• higher maintenance and replacement costs

This is especially important for decking, cladding, outdoor posts, screens, garden edges, pool areas, villas, resorts, and humid landscape-heavy projects.
Good ground clearance helps water drain, allows air to circulate, and makes the bottom detail easier to inspect and maintain over time.

Before exterior wood is installed, check the site level, drainage path, splash zone, planter position, and maintenance access.

Save this before your next tropical wood project and share it with your architect, contractor, or site team.

The future of timber starts with conversations like these.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Forestry students from IPB University to our facility for a full-day learning session—from the fundamentals of engineered timber and glulam technology, to manufacturing processes, installation methods, and real-world challenges in the field.

But the best part? The questions.

From structural performance and production techniques to the future of sustainable timber construction in Indonesia, their curiosity reminded us why knowledge-sharing matters just as much as innovation itself.

Seeing the production line firsthand gave everyone a closer look at how ideas, engineering, and craftsmanship come together to create structural timber that is built to perform.

At Woodlam, our vision goes beyond manufacturing glulam. We believe in helping shape an ecosystem where engineered timber becomes a trusted solution for a more sustainable built environment—and that starts with inspiring the next generation of foresters, engineers, architects, and innovators.

Thank you to the Forestry students of IPB University for spending the day with us. We can't wait to see what you'll build in the future. 🌱🪵

One glulam structure can create very different architectural feelings.

The difference is not in its strength.
It is in the surface expression.

From the clean precision of Clear Sanded to the depth of Abstract Rustic, Woodlam’s Glulam Texture Collection gives architects and designers more ways to shape atmosphere, material character and visual identity.

Choose the texture based on the experience you want the space to create:

Clear Sanded for calm, timeless minimalism.
Light Brushed for subtle natural warmth.
Brush Scraped for layered, handcrafted depth.
Rough Brushed for bold architectural presence.
Abstract Rustic for tactile, expressive character.

All textures are available for interior and protected exposed Glulam applications. Texture changes the visual and tactile character of the timber, without changing its structural performance.

Available for Jabon and Meranti Glulam.
Keruing is available in Rustic texture only.

A structural study is not about reducing quality. It is about removing unnecessary complexity before it becomes expensive.

For this project, our consultants reviewed the original structural concept, refined the glulam dimensions, and simplified the connector system.

The result: a 37% reduction in projected cost without compromising structural integrity or performance.
By resolving member sizing, connection logic, material quantities, and installation coordination early, a timber structure can move into production with greater clarity and efficiency.

For architects, developers, contractors, and project teams, the earlier the structure is understood, the easier it is to produce, coordinate, and install.

Save this for your next glulam project.

Choosing internal doors for your home? Look beyond the finish.

At AG House in Jakarta, Woodlam supplied Wynstellar internal doors in White Oak to support the home’s quiet rhythm, from shared spaces to private rooms.

The system combines warm White Oak veneer, flush door faces, slim framing, coordinated hardware, engineered stability, and acoustic privacy.

Because a good internal door should do more than look right. It should close quietly, stay aligned, support privacy, and feel integrated into daily life.

There's something about charred wood in a hospitality space. It absorbs the light rather than reflecting it and that quiet confidence changes the energy of a room entirely.

At Baker Butcher Barista .ubud , part of MDA Group and located within Alaya Suites Ubud, Bali, timber becomes part of the dining experience.

We specified Wall Timberclad in a Shou Sugi Ban finish, using fire-treated Jabon timber across the bar counter frontage. Combined with the glulam ceiling beams above, the space celebrates craftsmanship through texture, structure, and material honesty.

12.54m² of cladding. A small detail with a lasting presence.

Not all timber products are designed to do the same job.

While Glulam, CLT, LVL, and Solid Timber may appear similar at first glance, each is engineered for different structural and architectural requirements.

Choosing the right material depends on what your project needs:
• Long spans and exposed structures
• Structural walls and floors
• Precision framing systems
• Traditional timber applications

Understanding the differences early can help improve design outcomes, construction efficiency, and long-term performance.

The best-looking wood sample isn’t always the best choice.

A species or finish that looks perfect in a showroom can perform very differently once exposed to real project conditions.

⚠️ Before specifying timber, consider:

1. Structural performance
2. Durability requirements
3. Maintenance expectations
4. Budget over the full lifecycle
5. Installation timeline
6. Dimensional stability
7. Architectural intent and aesthetics

The most successful timber projects balance performance, environment, construction requirements, and design goals.

That’s why material selection should never be based on appearance alone.

Save this checklist for your next project and share it with anyone involved in timber specification.

Has wood movement been designed for in project?

Timber is a natural material. Even stable species and engineered timber products can respond to heat, humidity, sunlight, and moisture over time.

When dimensional movement is ignored, the issue may not appear immediately. It often shows up later as warped doors, uneven gaps, façade movement, poor alignment, or reduced visual quality.

This is especially important for doors, joinery, exterior cladding, large façades, coastal locations, and humid tropical projects.

Good timber specification is not just about choosing the right species. It is about choosing the right product, detail, fixing method, finish, and maintenance plan for the environment.

Save this for future reference and share it with your architect, contractor, or project team.
