The Gilis, mean “small islands” in the Sasak language and are three beautiful, yet strongly contrasting islands off the northwestern corner of Lombok, Indonesia.

Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air.

They are the second most popular destination in Indonesia (if not Asia) after Bali at the moment, and during our visit we were astounded at the amount of people arriving here every day. This only means one thing - get here before it gets even busier!

Pura Besakih is the holiest, largest and also one of the oldest temples on Bali. For the locals, it is considered the mother of all Balinese temples and is therefore also called the mother temple. Located at an altitude of 900 meters on the southwest slope of the (3142 m), Pura Besakih is the closest of all temples on Bali to the gods. Because according to Balinese Hindu beliefs, the still active volcano Gunung Agung is considered the residence of the gods and also symbolizes the center of the universe.

Pura Besakih is a temple complex in Besakih village on the slopes of Mount Agung in eastern Bali, Indonesia. It is the most important, largest and holiest temple of the Hindu religion in Bali and one of a series of Balinese temples. Situated almost 1000 meters on the side of Gunung Agung, it is an extensive complex of 23 separate but interconnected temples, the largest and most important of which is Pura Penataran Agung. The temple is built on six levels, terraced up the slope. The entrance is marked by a candi bentar (divided gate), and beyond that the Kori Agung is the gate to the second courtyard. For the Balinese, visiting the temple shrines is a special pilgrimage. The high altitude of Mount Agung gives it an almost mystical quality. Many staircases lead up the sacred mountain to the many temples, which vary according to type, status and function. In Pura Besakih there are three temples dedicated to the Hindu Trinity.
