The Melasti Ceremony is a purification ritual in Balinese Hindu tradition that is usually performed several days before Nyepi (the Balinese Day of Silence). The main purpose of this ceremony is to cleanse negative energies (bhuta kala) from human beings, the natural environment, and sacred objects in temples, allowing devotees to seek spiritual purity and harmony before entering the Nyepi celebration. The Melasti procession is typically carried out by walking together from the village temple to the sea, a lake, or another sacred water source while carrying pratima (sacred temple symbols). The purification ritual is then conducted using seawater or holy water (tirta) by a temple priest, followed by communal prayers by the community. In Bali, one of the locations frequently used for the Melasti ceremony is Sanur Beach. 🙏🌊
