Ngaben is a cremation or cremation ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. The Ngaben traditional ceremony is a ritual carried out to send the co**se to the next life. In this ceremony, the body is placed in a position like a sleeping person. The family that is left behind will also assume that the deceased person is sleeping. In this ceremony, there were no tears because they assumed that the body was simply not there for a while and underwent reincarnation or would find the final resting place at Moksha, a state in which the soul was free from reincarnation and the wheel of death. This cremation ceremony is also a symbol to purify the spirits of people who have died.

In the teachings of Hinduism, human bodies consist of subtle bodies (spirits or atma) and gross bodies (physical). The gross body is formed by five elements known as Panca Maha Bhuta. These five elements consist of the earth (earth), teja (fire), apah (water), wind (wind), and akasa (vacuum). These five elements coalesce into physical form and are then moved by the spirit. If someone dies, what actually dies is only the rough body while the spirit does not. Therefore, to purify the spirit, it is necessary to carry out the Ngaben ceremony to separate the spirit from its raw body.

Dark History of Kopi Luwak

It is said that this coffee was discovered accidentally during the Dutch colonial period. The forced cultivation system (cuulturstelsel) requires farmers to plant coffee, tea, to***co and sugar cane. This plant has a high selling value in the world of international trade. With a forced planting system, Indonesian farmers sell their garden products at a price that has been unilaterally determined. Not only that, farmers are also prohibited from enjoying their own crops. Severe punishment is given to anyone who "steals" the produce of their own garden. All crops must be sold at a low price to the VOC as a tax on land use.

At such a difficult time, coffee farmers began to pay attention to a natural event. Indonesian coffee, which has always been of high quality, has begun to attract the attention of pests. It is a mongoose, a type of weasel, one of the pests that often appears at harvest time, when the coffee fruits begin to ripen. Farmers note that mongoose has the skills to choose the most ripe coffee fruit. Of course this is very detrimental to the condition of the coffee plantation. But perhaps because of the hatred of the invaders, the farmers never seriously repelled the mongoose from their gardens.

Further attention, the coffee fruit eaten by the mongoose was not successfully digested completely. There are always whole coffee beans in civet droppings. I don't know who started it, the desire to drink coffee is very high to encourage farmers to wash the civet droppings. Farmers clean the digestion of fruit-eating animals in order to get some clean coffee beans to brew. The colonialists did not prohibit farmers from enjoying coffee from civet droppings. Maybe because of disgust, maybe because of pity, maybe also because you want to laugh at.

But unexpectedly. Luwak digestive coffee has a unique character. The aroma and taste are so alluring. Farmers can finally taste the coffee from their gardens, with a taste that might be more special. But good news began to be heard by the VOC. Soon, this coffee was consumed by the invaders. Again, coffee farmers only get to find and wash the civet droppings.
