Life is one big project. To be ‘a perfect work in progress’ is just fine ♥️

These many, many never-ending mini-projects are what shapes us and builds our identity. They give us something to own and something to learn from.

Our kids for example are at school (which follows a project based learning approach by the way) but we always encourage them to build their own interests outside of this. A way in which they can develop their independence critical thinking skills by themselves, outside of a group environment.

Dillon, like his Dad, has several projects on the go and just recently we’ve been supporting him to get some of them finished, set deadlines and stick to them. So, we set him the challenge of launching his own Amazon novel, which after a bit of research to figure out the process he managed to do. With a sense of self gratification and new found confidence he didn’t stop there and has since self-published on another fan fiction site https://www.futurehuman.family/dillons-novels 📕

And for Esme, drawing and animals are her everything. Her persistence with illustration has meant her artistic style has developed extensively these past few years. Every little scrap of paper, post it note or mobile phone is crammed with sketches of cute little furry creatures. Just recently we encouraged her to gather up all her doodles to compile some sort of portfolio and you can see them on our website page here: https://www.futurehuman.family/esme-draws 🦊

Who knows where this passion will lead, but for now it gives her a place to see progression and ownership of something undeniably unique and one of her ‘super powers’.

As parents, we’re equally as guilty about being serial project starters. Here’s a couple we have managed to get over the line https://www.futurehuman.family/family-projects They will never be quite finished of course and there’s always room for improvement. We consider ourselves to be ‘a perfect work in progress’ and that’s just fine 😌

Two of our best interests combined - health & travel 🌱✈️

With all the places we’ve been to and activities we’ve taken part in we need good health insurance when travelling. Even warmer weather or not being aware of unsanitary drinking water can be enough to seek medical treatment 🚑

We’ve tried all the usual nomadic health insurances along the way but by far the best for service and price is this one - who we’ve officially partnered up with 💚

So, if you’re looking for a detailed insurance to cover you globally, which can be started in any country please take a look here: www.genki.world/with/fhn

The team is great and even available on What’s App. You pay monthly, so can cancel at anytime and they also do an ex-pat insurance for a more comprehensive service. Their reviews speak for themselves, so there’s not much more to say really! 🌟

Difficult life lessons - intention & attachment ♥️

Our daughter is so intune with nature it’s unreal. She spots snakes camouflaged in trees and tiny little bugs we still can’t make out. At school they call her the dog whisperer. One day she will open a rescue centre. It already has a name and floor plan 🙏

Esme is also the master of manifesting. She is so desperately ready to get another pet but it’s not possible while renting. ‘A few more months’ we told her. Not good enough. Our walls were soon adorned with post-it notes of puppies and the date of 22nd March for its arrival was added to our wall planner 🐕

It worked (but a few weeks early), a puppy landed on our doorstep. We all agreed she was beautiful and being a typical Balinese dog was ever so chilled. ‘Lima’ became her name (5 in Indonesian). She was visiting next door and soon became our dog by day, returning home at night. 2 weeks later she left with her owner, without even a goodbye lick 😭

Next up, on a scooter ride to school when Esme noticed 3 tiny kittens, in a very poor state by the side of the lane. With no mother in sight and a box very conveniently placed nearby (we suspect someone wanted them to be found), we quickly scooped them up and rang round rescue centres to see who could take them. With stray animals sadly being a huge issue in Bali, they were all full to the rafters. We couldn’t just leave them, so off they went to the vets who proclaimed ‘they’re your kittens now’. This made a 10 year old very happy ☺️

So, Chilli, Sparky and Pixie came to stay in our store cupboard, out of sight from the landlord. Sadly, after a couple of good days, their health deteriorated and they lived out their last few days in quarantine at the vets after testing positive for the feline virus panleukopenia. This was very sad but an important realisation for Esme. She was their guardian in this life and their little lives were full of love from it. We all have to learn to let go 😢

For the moment we found a compromise, by fostering 2 beautiful little fluff balls over the Nyepi weekend from 🐈🐈‍⬛

It’s not yet 22nd March, so we wait in anticipation to see what shows up next.. 🐶🐱🐍❓

The kids spent a wonderful month in Egypt making new friends from across the globe at 🌍❤️

15 children of all ages came together to take part in a 4 week entrepreneurial project which saw them designing products to sell for charity - a rescue centre that does amazing work to provide free veterinary services for local people with their donkeys, horses and smaller animals 🫏 🐈 🐢

It gave Dillon chance to get a bit of independence, something that’s not always possible when travelling as a family. He loved the time he spent with the teens, going on trips and getting involved in daily activities. He really valued the time just hanging out and playing pool 🎱

Esme enjoyed the craft projects and spending so much time with the animals on the farm. Adaptable as ever, she hopped on the bus the first morning and settled straight in 🚌

What Louise, Abdul and the team have created is a very special place in Luxor, where the kids all feel right at home, connecting and feeling confident. A fun community, where the parents are super happy to wave their kids off each day and the children learn through culture and all sorts of interesting tasks 🎨 ⚽️

enabled us to make some very special connections with other families, all from very different backgrounds. We are united in our common intention to educate our children from a global perspective, allowing them to build resilience and make education fun! Thank you 🙏 ❤️

Bamboo sky house workshop 🎋🪚💦⛺️♥️

This weekend we were invited by at to help build a bamboo sky house for all the kids at the school to enjoy next term 🙌

Parents, kids and teachers got involved in sawing bamboo to make ladders, carving nails and cleaning the bamboo with coconut husks ⚒️ 🥥

A beautiful platform was created overlooking the rice fields and we’re excited to see how it progresses over the next few weeks! 💫

We all finished the day cooling off in the pool, a community meal and then camping out in the school hall for the more adventurous of us ⛺️🌙 ✨
