In the Balinese tradition, a true life guidance or ageman essentially consists of three main pillars called tetige, which are i gama, a gama, and u gama. These three elements are a unified brotherhood and cannot be separated in their practice. I gama, which falls under the protection of lord iswara, is the dimension of philosophy, inner attitude or idep, and tatwa that serves as the foundation of a person's thinking. A gama, governed by lord brahma, regulates aspects of ethics, morality, and character or ambek to distinguish between good and evil. Meanwhile, u gama, which is under the protection of lord wisnu, manifests in ceremonies, real actions or ulah, and the rules of life. This entire order leads to the worship of mahadewa krethajnanem as a symbol of the peak of knowledge consciousness, grounded in a sense of devotion through the expression ong guru paduke bhyo namah.
A deep understanding of this ageman begins with becoming sang sane meduwe aksara, which refers to an individual who has inner sincerity in studying sacred knowledge. This sincerity will lead humans to the highest level of consciousness, which is being aware of their own body. This physical and spiritual consciousness is guarded by three sacred letters that have specific roles within the self. Aksara wrehastra or a plays the role of the beginning letter or the start of awareness, aksara swalalita or u functions as the sastra urip or the soul that animates, and aksara modre or ma acts as the ruling letter that provides protection and control over the human self. The synergy between these three aspects of ageman and the mastery of these three sacred letters is the main foundation in achieving a harmonious and rahayu life.
