On the last visit to dry dock, 107.b had a hatch revamp. The leaky old Perspex on the hatches was replaced with custom made 11.4ml toughened glass panels by Brad Handsbury and Damien Buckley. Last weekend Neill Barnaby painted them and they are looking very smart now. Getting all spruced up for the Shannon Harbour Rally 🧼 💦 🚿
Hope to see lots of our there

Our volunteers have been hard at work since September clearing and cleaning internally. Due to ongoing water ingress and previous fire damage nothing was salvageable. All water, debris, internal wood, wiring, insulation and flooring has had to be removed over the past few months. The stairs had rotted due to water damage and this has been replaced. A few photos to show the progress to date. Lots more to do and if you have a few hours to spare we would love to hear from you.
Thank you to IWAI Offaly for sponsoring the skip, for the stairs, Microsoft for sponsoring some volunteers and Damien Buckley for facilitating waste removal.

Here is a blast from the past, to mark a special weekend for RCAA - Robertstown Community Amenities Association opening the new Eco Park.
107.B was known as Emily for a period in the 1970’s.
This photo is called “Emily” returning from a cruise in Roberstown, Co. Kildare and was taken in July 1974. This was taken during the Feásta by James O’Dea.
We look forward to the day when she can visit Roberstown following her renovation - next up for her is a new engine.

While doing some research on the boatmen of 107.B, I found this gem in the Census 1926 documents. Tommy Anderson who would a few years later be the engine man on 107.B is accounted for on 23M (4E) in Grand Canal Harbour on the night of the census. During the search for Tommy I found the records for No 1 boat, 9E, 15M and 19B. All the boatmen named worked for Grand Canal Carrier at that time.
If you look closely in the top right hand corner you will see where the enumerator has written “boat 23M Grand Canal Harbour”

310 years of heritage in one photo - 107.B is the baby here at 96 years old. 44M towed her into the dry dock a couple of weeks ago. Imagine the stories of the waterways these three barges could tell!

As the saying goes it takes a village 😄

Last Friday, 107.B was expertly towed alongside by Damien Buckley on 44M to bring her into dry dock. Thanks to Damien and also to Brad Handsbury, Cormac & Eibhlin from 4B, Sean O’Reilly and the 107.B work party group for their help in getting her into dry dock. It was a very windy day so no mean feat to get approx 40 tonnes of barge without an engine into dry dock 💨 💧
