Sat 7th ...The lads were very tired they slept long onto the morning even through the heat in their front seats, as the sun beamed through their windscreens, they stayed at a nice truck stop, and showered for free which was a novelty, once they were ready they got on the road again ready for the last 500 km to their destination.
They drove down the Alps and onto the flat plains of Croatia, and onto the friendship highway, which once joined the two main cities of Yugoslavia, Zagreb and Belgrade, it brought back great memories for Marko as he trucked his way across this highway many times 21 years ago.
They made their way across the border from Croatia to Bosnia, but the Bosnian police, recommended that they pass into Bjeljina thorough another border crossing, as it could take 7 days to go through customs....!
There are many political complications in this area so they reversed and went on to the Serbian border.
As they approached the border they saw a Queue of trucks, and many of the drivers out of their trucks waving around themselves, what we're they doing??? When they eventually Passed 10 kms of truckers waiting to pass stopped at the Croatian border post, they found out... The air was completely filled with billions of mosquitoes, which were hungry as hell, the swarm was brought on by the floods which had since receded and left stagnant water everywhere, a feast for the little blighters...
The boys bypassed the Huge Queue of trucks and went directly to the first post, the Croatian customs man, straight away asked us if they were from Ireland, as his daughter was going to live in Ireland next week!!, he was very helpful and got his boss to involved as well as what the lads were doing was not normal, but they were very helpful, and they stamped the lads papers, and told them good luck at the Serbian border post!! The boys went passed all the trucks and straight to the customs the two girls there were very friendly, and told the lads that they had to go to customs..!!! Ah more delays, trying to avoid the little blighters and at the same time they had to find a company to do the paperwork for them, and the problem was this company had to-do it for free, because it was Red Cross aid... Not easy, after visiting 4 companies, a box of cigs and 8 cans of Jelen beer later the boys blagged their way into getting two lads to do the job, many thanks to The Pro Team!! And lots of joking and truckers talk, and little bit of luck, we were on our way, however it was too late to go across into Bosnia now, and they had to get away from the billions of miggies! Belgrade beckoned them,...
