Our passion for the seas around the West coast of Ireland stem from generations of fishing and seafaring within our family backgrounds. To say the sea is in our blood is probably the best way to describe our love of the Atlantic ocean that rolls into Galway Bay. The West of Ireland is defined by the sea and the dramatic coastlines and beautiful islands it has carved out here. If you wish to understand the nature of the West of Ireland you need to get out on the water.

“Did you know that Galway is home to the longest inland water sailing race in Europe?”

⛵ The Cong–Galway Sailing Race Returns! ⛵

One of Ireland’s most historic sailing events is set to take place once again as sailors make the journey from Cong to Galway City in the annual Cong–Galway Sailing Race.

First sailed in 1882, the race is recognised as the longest inland water sailing race in Europe, covering the full length of beautiful Lough Corrib before finishing on the River Corrib in the heart of Galway.

This unique event brings together an incredible mix of boats, from racing dinghies and keelboats to traditional Galway Ho**ers, all sharing the same waters and celebrating our rich maritime heritage.

The race is proudly hosted by Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway City Sailing Club, Galway Ho**er Sailing Club, Corrib Rowing & Yachting Club, and Spiddal Sailing Club, showcasing the strong spirit of cooperation that exists across Galway’s sailing community.

Whether you’re a sailor, a supporter, or simply someone who enjoys seeing boats under sail, keep an eye on the River Corrib as the fleet makes its way towards Galway City. The sight of traditional Ho**ers sailing alongside modern racing boats is something special.
