⚡ Lights out — construction moving full speed ahead! ✈️

The next phase of works is underway, and it’s time to remove more than 250 airfield lighting fittings from across the airfield.

It’s a major operation and another important milestone as we prepare the airfield for the next stage of construction.

🚧 250+ fittings. One big job. Another step forward.

Runway works have now been underway since June, the runway has remained closed to all aircraft with the exception of Rescue 117. With the new SAR helipad coming into operation last Monday, the runway is now fully closed, allowing works to begin on the runway itself.

It’s also time to say goodbye to Runway 03/21. When the runway reopens in 2027, it will be known as Runway 02/20. The change is due to the gradual shift in magnetic variation over time, which has changed the runway’s magnetic direction.

So, after many years, it’s goodbye 03/21 and hello 02/20.
