Looking beautiful

13/10/2017

The opening night fireworks will light up Wexford harbour on Thursday October 19 at 7.30pm. This year, to increase the public’s comfort and safety, free tickets will be required to access the main viewing point on the quay front, which includes the area past the Spiegeltent in front of the stage for the speeches and the fireworks. Tickets are not required for any other areas in or around Wexford town. Other great viewing areas in and around town include: Wexford Golf Course, Mulgannon; St. Peter’s College, Summerhill (front car park); Sarsfields GAA Club in Park.

The free tickets will be available from Saturday, 14 October from a number of convenient venues, including the National Opera House, Wexford Arts Centre in Cornmarket, and the Spiegeltent Ticket Office on South Main Street, and from Monday, 16 October from the Wexford Borough District Council offices on Spawell Road, the Wexford County Council offices in Carricklawn. Just drop in to any of these locations and collect your free tickets, which will be available on a first come first served basis.

For those who decide to travel to the quay front for the speeches and fireworks, the usual traffic restrictions into Wexford town and along the quay front will remain as in previous years, with the quays closed to traffic from 6 pm, and Wexford Bridge closed from 7 pm. Both will reopen at 8 pm.

A.I.M.S. Choral Festival

Enjoy the annual Association of Irish Musical Societies choral festival in New Ross.

Friday 19th May Junior Day

Competitions for school and youth choirs take place in St Michael’s Theatre.

Solo competitions take place in both St Michael’s Theatre and the nearby Pastoral center.

Saturday 20th May

Like many previous years we will be hosting a special Festival Gala Night on Saturday 20th May, which will feature much of the award winning talent from the south east region of A.I.M.S.

Sunday 21st May Adult Day

The hugely popular senior day at the festival sees familiar faces return year on year to take part in one or more of the 12 choral categories and we welcome all returning and new choirs to New Ross. Please note; this year competition I, Musical Cameo, has been opened to all choirs who would wish to take part and is no longer confined to A.I.M.S. members. Competition C remains restricted to members of A.I.M.S.

We extend a warm invitation to any individual, choir or musical society to participate in one or multiple competitions across the weekend. You can be assured that you will find a competition to meet your needs!

There is always a great atmosphere and camaraderie during the festival with people sitting out on the streets in many areas of the town chatting and singing.

29th April to 1st May

JestFest returns this May Bank Holiday Weekend!

Wexford’s Comedy and Street Theatre Festival is back in 2016, bigger and better than ever! This May Bank Holiday weekend the spirit of devilish revelry fills the Viking streets as Irish and international street jesters, acrobats and contortionists wow us with their amazing shows. As the sun sets, the finest Irish stand-up comedians take to the stage in atmospheric venues all over town armed with hilarious one-liners, anecdotes and monologues to make you laugh and make you cry.

The stellar line-up contains Irish comedy stars such as Neil Delamere, Jason Byrne, Deirdre O’Kane, Al Porter, Colin Murphy, Joe Rooneyand Barry Murphy of Aprés Match fame, alongside international stars such as Canadian funnyman Tom Stade, and fresh from selling out three Vicar Street shows, new sensations Foil Arms & Hog.

This year’s Festival sees the launch of the Comedy HUB, a state of the art 500 seat venue specially constructed on the Wexford Quay Front. This venue will be a unique experience for the audience during the weekend, and will see the best comedians take to the stage each night. Comedy gigs will also take place a number of venues across Wexford town including the beautiful surrounds of the Greenacres Art Gallery, Upstairs in Mackens and in the Talbot Hotel. The Quay will also be the location for a Street Theatre Arena, where the best of local, national and international talent will perform daily. Wexford’s finest Bui Bolg will be joined by amongst others, the Fanzini Brothers.
