🌿🐒 Iquitos & The Peruvian Amazon 🐒🌿

Deep in the Peruvian jungle along the Amazon tributaries near the Tahuayo River, I experienced one of the most unforgettable adventures of my life. From the moment we landed in Iquitos until the moment we departed, the team at Tahuayo Lodge took incredible care of us. I would recommend this lodge to anyone wanting an immersive and authentic Amazon experience.

The lodge itself is built over the water, with huts connected by wooden walkways and surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Falling asleep to rainstorms, frogs, insects, and distant wildlife was unbelievably peaceful. Each evening after delicious fresh meals, our guides and biologists helped us plan the next day’s excursions.

Every day brought new adventures including birdwatching, piranha fishing, riverboat tours searching for monkeys, night excursions for nocturnal wildlife, cultural visits, and hikes through the terra firme rainforest searching for poison dart frogs. One of my favorite experiences was swimming with the famous pink dolphins of the Amazon.

The biodiversity was beyond anything I imagined. We saw monkeys with babies, sloths, macaws, toucans, caiman, tarantulas, poison dart frogs, parrots, hummingbirds, bats, butterflies, and so much more. The guides were incredible at spotting wildlife hidden deep within the jungle.

The Amazon is hot, humid, wild, beautiful, and deeply humbling. Between the wildlife, jungle thunderstorms, colorful fresh food, and the kindness of everyone we met, this became a once in a lifetime journey I will never forget. I already dream of returning someday with my family. 💚

🇵🇪 Cusco, Aguas Calientes & Machu Picchu, Peru 🇵🇪

I am fresh off the plane from an unforgettable women’s trip with .adventure to Peru, and my heart is still somewhere in the Andes.

To begin our adventure, we started in Cusco and travelled by van and train through the breathtaking mountains to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu City. Along the way, we stopped at a few incredible Incan sites, each one offering its own glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into another world, one filled with color, history, culture, and unbelievable natural beauty.

It is nearly impossible to describe the majesty of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. The lush green peaks seemed endless, while soft clouds wrapped themselves around the mountaintops like blankets drifting through the sky. We were blessed with beautiful sunshine that made the ancient stone city glow against the dramatic landscape. It absolutely lived up to its reputation as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Walking through the ruins, learning about the history and culture of the Incan people, and simply standing among such wonder was a deeply moving experience. Every path and every stone seemed to carry stories from centuries past.

Back in the quaint town of Aguas Calientes, the streets were alive with celebration during the First of May holiday processions. Music filled the air while colorful shops overflowed with handcrafted gifts and treasures to bring home to loved ones.

One of the most unique experiences was enjoying traditional Incan massages using coca leaves and herbal lotions meant to relieve stress, restore energy, and rejuvenate tired muscles after long days of exploring. It felt grounding, peaceful, and deeply connected to the traditions of the region.

And of course, the food was unforgettable. Every meal was vibrant, fresh, and bursting with flavor, a beautiful reflection of Peru itself.

Peru is a place that awakens every sense. A destination filled with beauty, resilience, history, and spirit that stays with you long after you leave.
