Since the war in Israel began on October 7th, 2023, the tourism industry—especially in the Dead Sea region—has come to an almost complete halt. Despite this, I have continued to provide tours for the few visitors who have still chosen to explore our beautiful land.

Soldier. Survivor. Historian. Traitor?

The story of Josephus Flavius is one of war, betrayal, and survival—a tale that shaped how we understand the destruction of ancient Jerusalem and the struggles of the Jewish people against Rome.

Born in 37 AD in Jerusalem, Josephus came from a priestly Jewish family, trained in law, diplomacy, and military tactics. By the time of the Jewish Revolt (66 AD), he was leading soldiers into battle, defending against the unstoppable Roman legions.

⚔️ But when the Romans crushed the rebellion, Josephus did the unthinkable—he surrendered.

Rather than face death, he prophesied that the Roman general Vespasian would become emperor—a prophecy that soon came true. Josephus was spared, taken to Rome, and made a historian, recording the events of the war and the fall of the Second Temple in 70 AD.

📖 His Writings Changed History Forever:
✔️ The Jewish War – A firsthand account of the great revolt and destruction of Jerusalem.
✔️ Antiquities of the Jews – A history of the Jewish people, including early references to Jesus and John the Baptist.
✔️ Against Apion – A defense of Judaism against Roman criticism.

His writings give us one of the only surviving records of the last days of ancient Jerusalem, the tragedy of Masada, and the destruction of the Temple. But many never forgave him for switching sides—was he a traitor, or did he preserve history for future generations?
