The final product is ready, BAMBOO LIGHT with artisan Manipal. Choosing to do this workshop was a conscious decision to allow all sensory organs to indulge in creative thinking. Being welcomed to the work station and allowed to make my own design instead of selecting from a catalogue felt like such a freedom. In this post, you can see the workshop, preparation of Bamboo and the design drawn on the bamboo which will soon come into life.
Doing something hands-on has become so rare since we're always so wired with work or killing time on cellphones, laptops, tabs, Ai, etc.
I want to share this experience with you, make and take workshop.

Bangalore is a beautiful city stereotyped as the “IT capital” and the “pub city”. I migrated to this and in 2002 from North of India. Bangalore comprising of a cosmopolitan crowd, I never had the need to pick up the local language, everyone understands Hindi and the crown in general is quite educated. I have been through all the phases in this city, residing in the CBD, right from primary school to high school to college to the professional world. Every facet of this city fascinates me, be it history, landscape, development, public interactions, the bureaucracy, music events, government organised events, etc etc.
When my relatives from North of India visit Bangalore, its always used as a transit route to Coorg or Ooty or Kodaikanal etc etc. They say Bangalore does not have anything to offer other than the pub culture and being inhabited by the youth in majority. The pub culture is prevalent, we cannot deny that, due to the heritage pubs that still serve, the number of expats, the tourism and the newly hired working crowd dominate the pubs.
Stepping away from that domain as soon as college ended, Poo (a good friend) used to take me, along with a few others to different spots around the city just to sit and relax and be away from the daily humdrum affairs of an urban lifestyle. We covered numerous spots, and all I wanted was to learn how to drive then. After 5 months of chilling, I applied for a job as an interior designer and all the explorations came to a halt.
8 months into work, I learnt an automatic and convinced my parents for a car. When the car came, I never drove it for the first 3 months. During the rainy season, I was forced to take the car to work everyday. Two month of practicing and the highways became my best friends. My explorations resumed, this time in my car, and a different crowd every time.
I have covered over 12 different spots (lakes and treks) around the city in my first 3 months. Every weekend is truly dedicated to finding places, writing about them, taking people with me at a minimal cost, and spreading the word. This city and its suburbs has a lot to offer, namely lakes, dams, hills, treks, strong winds, caves, water caves etc etc, the only issue is, we don’t know about them.
My aim is to spread the word about Bangalore’s beauty and experiences, to the locals, to the migrants and primarily to the foreign visitors. Have you seen what is kept at the concierge in the hotels here, pamphlets by the government tourism authorities and the private travel companies?, They are outrageous. If anyone has even traveled to Greece or Dubai or Singapore or even Sri Lanka for that matter, they make the most of the foreign revenue generated with their investments in the right place, like tourism, hospitality, transport infrastructure, cultural events etc, everything done systematically and aesthetically. The citizens and the tourists enjoy and value and cherish moments spent with loved ones doing activities, exploring nature, anticipating the next moment and simply capturing them in their hearts and phones. The government should give this to them. Why not? Yes, if one of the travel spots does gain a lot of popularity, rules and regulations will be laid down by the local authorities to be followed, or like anything else in Bangalore, it will be banned. So let’s enjoy the freedom and let everyone else experience it too.
