The freedom to move through a city safely shapes access to education, employment and opportunity. For women and girls, that freedom must be central to how we plan our public spaces and transport systems.
Alagappan Ramanathan, Director, Global Design Centre, DataCorp Traffic, participated as a panellist at UN Women India’s National Consultation on Safe and Inclusive Public Spaces: Celebrating 15 Years of Progress, Partnerships, and Investment, held on 16 September in New Delhi.
Marking 15 years of the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces initiative, the consultation brought together government representatives, United Nations representatives, researchers, urban planners and women’s rights organisations to reflect on progress and set priorities for the decade ahead.
We thank UN Women Asia and the Pacific for convening this important dialogue and giving Mr. Alagappan Ramanathan the opportunity to represent DC Transport and contribute to the discussion. As an organisation, we have always been committed to promoting women’s employment and continue to keep the safety, accessibility and needs of women and children central to our approach towards public space planning.
